Top Cow Celebrates 20 Years of Seth Green's Freshmen with Definitive Kickstarter Edition

LOS ANGELES, CA — August 10, 2026 — Seth Green is returning to comics. Top Cow Productions today announced the Freshmen 20th Anniversary Kickstarter, celebrating two decades of the cult-favorite superhero comedy Green created with writer Hugh Sterbakov. Launching August 18, 2026, the campaign offers longtime fans and new readers the opportunity to experience the complete Freshmen saga in a definitive anniversary collection. The campaign will also debut an all-new 32-page Freshmen: 20th Anniversary Reunion Special, available as a standalone comic book and included in the hardcover edition.

Fans can pre-register now at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/topcow/seth-green-freshmen-top-cow-collected-edition to be notified the moment the campaign goes live.

Originally published in 2006, Freshmen follows a group of socially awkward college students who survive a strange laboratory accident and emerge with superpowers inspired by whatever they were thinking about at the moment of the explosion. Equal parts superhero adventure, college comedy, and coming-of-age story, Freshmen explores what happens when ordinary young people are handed extraordinary abilities without the experience, maturity, or confidence to handle them.

Twenty years after its original debut, Freshmen returns at a time when audiences have embraced more grounded and character-driven superhero stories. The series combined humor, friendship, insecurity, and genuine emotional stakes with unconventional powers and large-scale comic-book action, offering an irreverent alternative to traditional capes-and-tights storytelling.

Headlining the campaign is the all-new Freshmen: 20th Anniversary Reunion Special, an original 32-page comic written by series creators Seth Green and Hugh Sterbakov with artwork by original series artist Leonard Kirk. Set during the classmates' twentieth reunion, the story reunites the original cast as they reflect on adulthood, friendship, old romances, and one hilariously disastrous mission they never quite managed to forget.

Top Cow and Rocketship Entertainment will manage and fulfill the Kickstarter campaign, presenting the series in a premium anniversary edition featuring exclusive formats, collectible rewards, stretch goals, special add-ons, behind-the-scenes material, and additional surprises created specifically for backers.

“It’s hard to believe it’s been twenty years,” said Seth Green, co-creator of Freshmen. “This series came from a genuine love of superhero comics and the idea of exploring what real college students might do if they suddenly found themselves with incredible—and sometimes incredibly inconvenient—powers. I’m excited that longtime fans will be able to revisit the story and that a new generation of readers will get to meet these characters.”

“Freshmen has always been about friendship, finding your place in the world, and discovering that becoming a hero is usually much messier than anyone expects,” said co-creator and writer Hugh Sterbakov. “Bringing the complete story back for its twentieth anniversary gives us the opportunity to celebrate the characters, the creators, and the readers who have kept the series alive.”

Top Cow President and COO Matt Hawkins emphasized the celebratory nature of the campaign.

“Fans have continued asking us about Freshmen for years, and the twentieth anniversary gave us the perfect reason to bring it back,” Hawkins said. “But we didn’t want to simply repackage the original series. Seth and Hugh came back with a brand-new story that catches up with these characters twenty years later, which makes this feel like a genuine return rather than just an anniversary collection. For longtime fans, it’s a chance to see some old friends again, and for new readers, it’s a great way to discover what made Freshmen special in the first place.”

The anniversary collection features the complete original Freshmen series by Seth Green and Hugh Sterbakov, with artwork by Leonard Kirk and Will Conrad. The campaign also introduces the all-new Freshmen: 20th Anniversary Reunion Special, written by Green and Sterbakov, featuring artwork by Leonard Kirk, and brand new covers illustrated by Leonard Kirk and Rodolfo Migliari. The hardcover edition also includes behind-the-scenes material, a complete cover gallery, and additional anniversary bonus features.

Freshmen 20th Anniversary Hardcover Includes:
• The complete original Freshmen series
• The all-new 32-page Freshmen: 20th Anniversary Reunion Special
• Behind-the-scenes material
• Complete cover gallery
• Kickstarter-exclusive editions and rewards

Synopsis
Dark and bloody family secrets are spilled as The Rocketfellers' world of the 25th century is explored in the second chapter of the time-traveling tale, finally answering the big questions: Why does the future family hide in the present? Why is Roland's sister Raina hunting her family, and letting her own mother die? How does this fractured family pick up the pieces of their shattered lives? The answer to the last one will shock you! Collects THE ROCKETFELLERS #7-12

Plot
This volume explores Raina's origins. Jacob owns Cronex, the largest and most powerful corporation of the 25th century, and his fiancée is Raina, sister of Roland and Reggie. She is in charge of the company's security: a lethal, highly efficient soldier and expert in industrial espionage.

Raina maintains a complex relationship with everyone, especially Roland, the lead scientist developing Cronex's nanotechnology, capable of curing diseases, healing wounds, and prolonging life. Although Roland fears the ethical implications of this advancement, Raina constantly pressures him to complete his project.

After a horrific accident leaves them on the brink of death, Roland is forced to cross all his ethical boundaries to save Raina and Jacob. Upon awakening, Jacob threatens Roland, saying he will force him to complete his treatment and kidnap his family. In response, Roland and Rachel gather Rae, Richie, and Rodney to escape to the past through the Time Zone Witness Program, a witness protection program run by Roland's brother, Reggie.

On Halloween night, Raina finally discovers her family's time-traveling location and attacks them. Roland agrees to leave with her on the condition that she doesn't harm anyone, but Raina, desperate to save herself and Jacob, is prepared to kill anyone necessary.

To return to the 25th century, Roland modifies Richie's exoskeleton with the promise of finishing their cures there using this unethical technology. However, it's all a trap: Roland causes the exoskeleton to explode with them inside, leaving Roland's own fate hanging in the balance.

A spectacular volume, packed with emotion, suspense, and chases, with a breathtaking ending.

What does it come from?
“THE UNBELIEVABLES,” Part Three
For the first time, the Rocketfellers finally meet Hornsby & Halo! When Rose Hornsby, Zach Halo, and the Trillion Dollar Kid—aka Tommy Townsend III—confront the family from the 25th century about their secret, they unleash deadly chaos when Tommy’s overprotective robot bodyguard unleashes his full capability!

Plot
The Trillion Dollar Kid, Zach, Rose, and Sterling visit the Rocketfellers just as they're singing "Happy Birthday" to Rachel, a bittersweet moment because Roland, Rae, Richie, Rodney, and Raina are still grieving Roland's tragic disappearance. Tommy tries to explain that he needs their help to find his parents and reveals that he knows the Rocketfellers are Unbelievable, which stresses everyone out and raises the tension.

Sterlington's presence makes Rodney suspicious, and he starts fighting the robot with the help of Richie and the dog Rex. Zach and Rose activate their powers, but the battle calms down when Tommy intervenes and asks them to remain calm.

Rachel sees a photo of Tommy's parents and recognizes them. Six months ago, they encountered them and left a note in Roland's jacket warning them to be careful, as they are being monitored.

Zach and Rose promise Richie that when they have enough energy, they'll take him to Purgatory to find out if Roland is in Heaven or Hell, just like they did with Tommy in Hornsby & Halo #14.

Richie shows Tommy that he's been trying to activate his missing father's time machine for a while, but he still needs some work. Tommy connects Sterling to Richie's equipment, and something unexpected happens: a virus from the future, where AIs have become emancipated, infects Sterling, turning him into a killer robot.

This crossover, The Unbelievables, continues to surprise and concludes in The Trillion Dollar Kid #2.
