Lavender Jack cuenta con arte, historia y letras de Schkade (Will Eisner’s The Spirit Returns, Saint John), colores de Jenny Manley Lee (Team Avatar Tales Library Edition, Dicebox) y diseño de logotipo de Dylan Todd (The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos).

DAN SCHKADE’S HIT WEBTOON WEBCOMIC “LAVENDER JACK” COMES TO PRINT FROM DARK HORSE COMICS

The tech-savvy gentleman vigilante is here to take on the ruling class

MILWAUKIE, Ore., (August 7, 2025)— Comic artist Dan Schkade’s outstanding WEBTOON webcomic with over 6 million global views comes to Dark Horse in a beautiful print edition. Lavender Jack features art, story and letters by Schkade (Will Eisner’s The Spirit Returns, Saint John) with colors by Jenny Manley Lee (Team Avatar Tales Library Edition, Dicebox), and logo design by Dylan Todd (The Oddly Pedestrian Life of Christopher Chaos), with early editorial and WEBTOON editorial provided by Bekah Caden and Bre Boswell, respectively. Arriving in March 2026, fans will be treated to a new cover and updated interior art for the first season, making this print edition a must-have for vigilante detective comic lovers.

In Lavender Jack Volume 1:

The City of Gallery is a place of science, diversity, and wealth at the dawn of the 20th century. But lurking deep within is a corrupt ruling class squeezing the city for all its worth. Enter: LAVENDER JACK—a devilish vigilante whose fighting prowess and arsenal of advanced technology make him a nightmare for Gallery’s elites. Those pulling the strings aren’t about to loosen their grip on this fair city without a fight, and they have some devils of their own! Collects season one of the WEBTOON series (episodes 1-48).

"I've lost count of how many people have asked me if there was ever going to be a print edition of Lavender Jack,” said Schkade. “Champagne problems to be sure, but it feels amazing to finally be able to put a collection in their hands. And partnering with Dark Horse to do so? A dream. Reassembling thousands of vertical scrolling panels into a traditional graphic novel has been both laborious and rewarding, and whether you're a longtime fan or a new reader, I truly can't wait for you to see it."

Take back the city with Lavender Jack Volume 1 when the 330-page (6.625x10.1875”) paperback arrives in bookstores on March 3, 2026, and comic shops on March 4, 2026, for $29.99.

1. Bad Influence #1 talks about authoritarianism in a dystopian future that resonates some with our current times, with elements of Fahrenheit 451 and 1984. Do you feel it's increasingly relevant to talk about these issues to raise awareness about the possibility of them occurring?

Orson: It’s less about warning people of fascism and more about showing the backdoor — the subtle path from things that seem fun and harmless to something way darker. Bad Influence started with this idea that systems shape us without asking — and they often don’t have our best interests in mind.

Roman: Recently we both read the book Nexus — it’s basically about how culture programs us. We’re built by the information we take in. And their nature and structure isn’t neutral.

Orson: That's very much what is at the heart of this. Season One at least. But we’ve mapped the story far beyond that. We always start with the big, high-concept stuff — then we shove it to the side and zoom in on the person caught up in it.

Roman: And that’s Nel. She’s being gaslit by a world that keeps insisting everything’s fine — when it clearly isn’t. That tension between what you see and what you’re told to believe? That’s where the story lives.

And we’re having a lot of fun with it too. It’s weirdly hard to be absurd in 2025, but we like to think we got there.

2. The first installment quickly depicts a betrayal. Will the story continue to move forward with these shocking twists?

Orson: What we can say is that we’ve thought a lot about how to do it well. Twists and turns are only satisfying if they’re grounded in something that builds. We always joke about Lost — an amazing show full of incredible mysteries, but sometimes you’d wonder, do they even plan to answer this?

Roman: One thing to know about our process is, we’ve developed the story far into the future. We know what happens, where it goes — and we build backwards.

3. The heroine is a young woman who promises to fight the very technology that oppresses her… What was your inspiration for this character?

Orson: We follow a lot of emerging tech — especially stuff that impacts how stories are told, how audiences are shaped. So there’s definitely a layer of that here. But when it comes to Nel, we tried to write from something more personal.

Roman: Writing a character like Nel only works if you’ve lived through some version of that alienation. I moved around a lot growing up — new cities, new schools, new countries. I always felt like I had to reassemble myself for each new place. Nel is trying to find herself, who she should be, when everybody around her is shouting, telling her they already have the answer.

Orson: Nel’s definitely an outsider. She’s not just fighting a system — she’s trying to convince the people closest to her that the system is broken in the first place. And they’re not always that sure of how clear headed she is.

Roman: She’s stubborn, intense, a little too much sometimes. But we think everyone’s felt like that at some point. That disconnection. That fear that maybe you’re the only one who sees the cracks while everyone else plays along.

4. Nel’s stitched, patchwork mask has become visually iconic… will this tone carry through the wider design language of the story?

Roman: The patchwork mask is very specific to Nel’s crew — the Headless Sixx. They’re rebels, and their whole aesthetic is about hijacking the system’s language and making it their own. That includes the mascots — these big, flesh and blood icons that represent the regime. Nel’s mask is stitched from that same imagery. It’s a form of mockery, and resistance.

Orson: But more broadly, that remix culture is baked into Jor’s art style. He loves taking the pop culture language and twisting it into something new and slightly broken. He had this whole personal series about a kind of streetwear-dystopian baseball team — that energy definitely made its way into Bad Influence.

Roman: It’s very college-driven — but also very deliberate. Everything in this world is stitched together from pieces of something older. Just like all ideas.

5. The art is very dynamic and has textures that blend manhwa and comics. How would you define the project artistically?

Orson: It’s definitely got a hybrid DNA. The visual energy pulls from manga, manhwa, Americana and Mexican art.

Roman: Jor brings a lot of texture to the world. Some panels feel synthetic and electric, others feel browned and decayed. We always wanted the style to be a bit shape shifting to match what’s going on in the story. That mix is important because the world of Bad Influence is bright and rotten at the same time. It’s layered, like the story.

Orson: Jor’s work feels incredibly specific to him, and to this world. There’s definitely nothing else like it on webtoon.

6. How many chapters does this saga have on WEBTOON? What advantages does working in the vertical format offer, compared to traditional comics?

Roman: We’re launching with a full arc mapped out — but we’ve got plans for multiple seasons if readers connect with it. Bad Influence is designed to scale. The more you dig in, the deeper the world gets.

Orson: As for the format — vertical scroll is an incredible tool for emotional pacing. You can control tension, silence, surprise in a way that’s hard to pull off in print.

Roman: The scroll also lets you blur time a little — linger longer on a moment, or make a beat drop suddenly. It’s not just about reading; it’s about rhythm.

7. Have you considered adapting in comic/manga format to get a printed edition?

Roman: We’ve talked about it — but not deeply. It takes real focus (and let’s be honest, a Herculean effort,) to pull anything off properly in this space.

Orson: The vertical format is its own thing. A straight translation to print is more like a bound webcomic than a true comic or manga adaptation. That said, WEBTOON has done print versions that retain a lot of what makes the originals work.

Roman: We’re definitely open to it — we just want to make sure that if we do it, we do it right. The format has to feel intentional, not like a compromise. But right now our sole focus in on the success of the Webcomic.

HiHi Studios and Otherly Productions Debut BAD INFLUENCE

As a WEBTOON Original With Artist Jor Ros

(Los Angeles, CA – June 26, 2025) HiHi Studios — the manga and anime-led studio co-founded by streaming icon Valkyrae and Range Media’s Kai Gayoso — is announcing a new strategic partnership with start-up Otherly Productions, a next-generation studio reimagining how original franchises are created, launched, and scaled for today’s audiences. The first of their collaborations is BAD INFLUENCE, a high-energy, emotionally-raw sci-fi thriller set in a world of candy-colored lies, illustrated by the Barcelona-based artist Jor Ros and co-written by Orson James and Roman Calais. The first three episodes of BAD INFLUENCE are now available as a WEBTOON Original, with subsequent episodes dropping every Thursday. Readers have the option to unlock up to three additional episodes using WEBTOON’s Fast Pass feature.

In BAD INFLUENCE, the city of Weisshorn is a surveillance city, where life is a never-ending parade–literally. Mascots smile from every screen, propaganda loops in cheery jingles, and the people are kept docile by distraction. At the center of it all is Oswald, a charismatic dictator with a showman’s flair and a deep need to control the story everyone lives inside.

The series follows the adventures of Nel — a hot-headed and haunted young woman, who isn’t buying the dream sold to the masses. Nel joins a rebel gang to take the system down. But the deeper she digs, the weirder it gets. She unearths glitches, ghosts, and truths that no one wants uncovered. Reality’s falling apart. And Nel might be next.

BAD INFLUENCE is about a reluctant rebel fighting back against the system,” said co-writer Orson James. “Weisshorn is a broad-smiling dystopia where control is asserted through entertainment. The system doesn't just rule with fear — it distracts, dazzles, and scripts your life through spectacle. If everyone’s smiling, how bad can it be? It’s the surveillance state dressed up as a theme park.”

“Nel’s rebellion is an act of self-discovery,” said Roman Calais. “Nel isn’t just fighting the regime — she’s trying to figure out who she is beneath the roles she’s been forced into. Life in Weisshorn is a mess of lies and trauma, and Nel’s ready to break out. But she’s not the chosen one. She feels lost, confused. Nel carries herself like a fighter, but behind that is a young woman patching over the cracks of doubt and insecurity with stubbornness and sheer will. And, in this world, holding it together might be the most radical act of all.”

Partnering on Otherly Production’s debut is HiHi Studios, a manga and anime-led studio, co-founded by Range Media’s Kai Gayoso and streaming icon Valkyrae (13M+ subscribers). “My community has always been the heart of everything I do,” said Valkyrae, Co-Founder of HiHi Studios. “When I saw what Otherly was building, I knew I had to be part of it. This partnership lets us launch and grow worlds fans will truly care about. Our first IP, BAD INFLUENCE, is weird, wild, and full of heart — and I’m so proud of it. Even if you’ve never read a comic in your life, trust me – once you start scrolling, you’ll be hooked.”

BAD INFLUENCE is available now as a WEBTOON Original, tapping into WEBTOON’s millions of monthly readers and popular vertical scrolling format. Designed for cross-platform expansion, the release is the first step in a broader strategy to scale creator-owned worlds across short-form video, interactive experiences, merch, and long-form content.

“With a pipeline of similar projects launching in the coming year, the partnership with HiHi Studios reimagines how IP can be launched, scaled, and sustained — built for fandom from the ground up, and designed to meet audiences where they already are,” said Otherly’s Bryan St. John.

BAD INFLUENCE is about defiance, and being bold enough to break away from scripts and algorithms,” said Jor Ros. “The story of Nel, a deeply flawed yet earnest misfit, who is just trying to find her sense of belonging in a world she feels largely disconnected from, has been an incredible experience and opportunity as an artist. I’ve developed a deep bond with the characters in this world, and I think everyone will be able to see part of themselves in them. After all, their story boils down to people trying to figure things out in a relentless world that won’t stop yelling at you so that it can capture your full attention, all of the time.”
