AWA Studios, el desarrollador independiente de historias audaces y relevantes de los artistas, escritores y artesanos más destacados del mundo, anunció hoy sus ofertas del Día del cómic gratuito (FCBD) para los consumidores norteamericanos. El primer número de AWA de PRIMOS, la popular serie limitada mixta de leyenda maya y cultura latina creada por el equipo mexicano de leyendas del cómic, Al Madrigal ("The Daily Show", "Mobrius", "Night School", "The Way Back" ) y Carlo Barberi (THE INCREDIBLE HULK, ADVENTURES OF THE SUPER SONS), estarán disponibles de forma gratuita el sábado 7 de mayo. El lanzamiento contará con PRIMOS #1 tanto en inglés como en español, marcando la primera vez que un editor lanza un cómic en dos idiomas de manera simultánea.
Considerada “una historia nueva y fantástica que utiliza la cultura y la historia latinx para que todos la disfruten” (Multiversity Comics), PRIMOS es una innovadora serie limitada de 4 números que es una de las primeras en presentar a un héroe latinx. Escrito por Madrigal e ilustrado por Barberi, PRIMOS se anunció originalmente en diciembre del año pasado. Después de que se lanzó el primer número el 2 de febrero, se agotó rápidamente en todo el país. El número 2 se publicó el 9 de marzo, mientras que los números 3 y 4 estarán disponibles el 20 de abril y el 1 de junio, respectivamente.

“Mi misión siempre ha sido y seguirá siendo tratar de presentar más personajes que se parezcan a mí y a la gente de mi comunidad”, dijo Axel Alonso, creador de cómics y director creativo de AWA Studios. “Estamos en un momento crucial de nuestra historia en el que los creativos de todos los orígenes pueden contar historias desde la perspectiva de los menos representados. Tengo la esperanza de que FCBD ayude a presentar PRIMOS a nuevas audiencias y que estos héroes resuenen entre los lectores de cómics de todo el país”.
En PRIMOS, hace siglos, dos hermanos mayas construyeron una nave espacial que los envió al espacio exterior. Al regresar a la Tierra solo para encontrar su cultura y civilización destruidas, uno de los hermanos jura venganza y busca diezmar el planeta con la tecnología intergaláctica reunida en sus viajes. Para evitar esto, su hermano crea un plan de contingencia que activa a los protectores del mundo, descendientes de su propia familia Pascal. Ahora, el destino del planeta está en manos de tres primos dispersos por América Central y del Norte que ni siquiera se conocen.
Para promover aún más la serie para el Día del cómic gratuito, AWA se ha asociado con la Asociación Nacional de Arte y Cultura Latina (NALAC), la principal organización de servicios artísticos latinos multidisciplinarios del país. Se incluirá un anuncio especial en la oferta de PRIMOS FCBD con una nota de Al Madrigal para que los consumidores aprendan más sobre PRIMOS, la organización y lo que está haciendo por los creadores y artistas latinos. Durante más de 30 años, NALAC ha brindado programas que estabilizan y revitalizan el sector artístico y cultural latino de los EE. UU. al brindar apoyo crítico, financiamiento, oportunidades de trabajo en red, desarrollo de liderazgo y capacitación profesional para artistas latinos y organizaciones artísticas en todas las regiones del país.

Featuring Latinx Heroes, PRIMOS Marks the First Comic to Feature English and Spanish Language Editions Within the Same Book
April 28, 2022 - New York, NY - AWA Studios, the independent developer of bold and relevant stories from the world’s most outstanding artists, writers, and artisans, announced today its Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) offerings for North American consumers. AWA’s first issue of PRIMOS, the popular Mayan legend and Latino culture mixed limited series created by the all-Mexican team of comic legends, Al Madrigal (“The Daily Show,” “Mobrius”, "Night School," "The Way Back") and Carlo Barberi (THE INCREDIBLE HULK, ADVENTURES OF THE SUPER SONS), will be available for free on Saturday, May 7. The release will feature PRIMOS #1 in both English and Spanish, marking the first time a publisher has released a dual-language issue.
Deemed “a fantastic new story that utilizes Latinx culture and history for everyone to enjoy” (Multiversity Comics), PRIMOS is a groundbreaking 4-issue limited series that is one of the first to feature a Latinx hero. Written by Madrigal and illustrated by Barberi, PRIMOS was originally announced in December of last year. After the first issue was released on February 2, it quickly sold out across the country. Issue #2 was released on March 9 while issue #3 and issue #4 will be available on April 20 and June 1 respectively.
“My mission has always been and will continue to be trying to introduce more characters that look like me and people within my community,” said Axel Alonso, comic book creator and Chief Creative Officer of AWA Studios. “We’re at a pivotal moment in our history where creatives of all backgrounds can tell stories from the perspective of the underrepresented. I’m hopeful that FCBD will help introduce PRIMOS to new audiences and that these heroes will resonate with comics readers around the country.”
In PRIMOS, centuries ago, two Mayan brothers constructed a spacecraft that sent them hurtling into outer space. Returning to Earth only to find their culture and civilization destroyed, one of the brothers vows revenge and seeks to decimate the planet with intergalactic technology gathered on his travels. To prevent this, his sibling creates a contingency plan that activates the world’s protectors - descendants of their own Pascal family. Now, the fate of the planet lies in the hands of three cousins scattered throughout Central and North America who have never even met.
To further promote the series for Free Comic Book Day, AWA has partnered with the National Association of Latino Arts and Culture (NALAC), the nation’s premier multidisciplinary Latino arts service organization. A special ad will be included in the PRIMOS FCBD offering with a forward note from Al Madrigal for consumers to learn more about PRIMOS, the organization, and what it’s doing for Latino creators and artists. For over 30 years, NALAC has delivered programs that stabilize and revitalize the US Latino arts and cultural sector by providing critical advocacy, funding, networking opportunities, leadership development, and professional training for Latino artists and arts organizations in every region of the country.
