Sinopsis:

Starlight, que recopila la clásica serie de seis números del equipo creativo superestrella de Mark Millar y Goran Pavlov, es una de las novelas gráficas más queridas de los últimos diez años. Próximamente una gran película del escritor y director Joe Cornish, el productor de X-Men Simon Kinberg y 20th Century Films.

Trama 

Starlight narra la historia de Duke Mcqueen, un terrícola que por azares del destino ayudó a derrocar a un tirano en un planeta extraterrestre (Tantalus), cuando regresa a la tierra su historia fue el hazme reír de todos y lo consideraron loco, luego de muchos años, Duke está viejo y abatido, su esposa fallece, su mejor amiga, consejera y confidente, quedando solo y distanciado de sus hijos quienes le creen loco. Pero cuando a su puerta llega una segunda oportunidad de sentirse valorado y respetado, Duke regresa a Tantalus para ayudar a sus antiguos aliados.

Esta mini-serie reimagina los cómics clásicos de ciencia ficción de la década de 1950-1960, como Flash Gordon y Buck Rogers, pero le otorga otra dimensión al personaje cuando lo coloca en circunstancias semejantes pero mucho más viejo y en busca de una redención interna, que da la sensación de estar en un filme de Clint Eastwood (Gran Torino, Los Imperdonables), donde una manera de superar su duelo por la muerte de su esposa es aprovechar la oportunidad de revivir viejas glorias.

Este cómic ofrece un mensaje deberían difundirse en el mundo sobre lo que significa la opresión y la respuesta de la gente ante la esperanza de un cambio. Es una novela gráfica que con nostalgia te ayuda a sentirse bien y ver el duelo de otra manera.

Arte 

Goran Parlov es totalmente acertado para la historia, logra dar esa nostalgia de esos cómics de pulpa de ciencia ficción de los años 1950 y 1960, por ejemplo la firma constante en cada cuadro ilustrado, eso es un toque genial, por otro lado sus dibujos poseen ángulos y detalles frescos.

Synopsis

Until an old-fashioned rocket-ship descends into his backyard and a little boy from the world he saved urges him to come back to save the universe one last time.

Collecting the classic six issue series from the superstar creative team of Mark Millar and Goran Pavlov, Starlight is one of the most beloved graphic novels of the past ten years. Soon to be a major movie from writer/ director Joe Cornish, X-Men Producer Simon Kinberg and 20th Century Films.

Plot 

Starlight tells the story of Duke McQueen, an Earthling who, by chance, helped overthrow a tyrant on an alien planet (Tantalus). When he returns to Earth, his story is a laughingstock, and everyone considers him crazy. After many years, Duke is old and dejected. His wife, his best friend, advisor, and confidant, dies, leaving him alone and estranged from his children, who believe him to be crazy. But when a second chance to feel valued and respected arrives at his doorstep, Duke returns to Tantalus to help his former allies.

This miniseries reimagines classic science fiction comics from the 1950s and 1960s, such as Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers, but gives the character another dimension by placing him in similar circumstances, but much older and in search of inner redemption, giving him the impression of being in a Clint Eastwood film (Gran Torino, Unforgiven). Duke feels that one way to overcome his grief over the death of his wife is to take advantage of the opportunity to relive old glories.

This comic offers a message that should be spread worldwide about what oppression means and how people respond to the hope for change. It's a graphic novel that, with its nostalgia, helps you feel good and see grief differently.

Art

Goran Parlov is absolutely spot-on for the story. He manages to convey that nostalgia of those pulp science fiction comics from the 1950s and 1960s. For example, the constant signature in each illustrated frame is a brilliant touch. His drawings also feature fresh angles and details.

Gracias al escritor de esta mini-serie Mark Millar, quien nos ofreció leer por adelantado este cómic independiente que marca el final de este primer volumen.

Starlight narra la historia de Duke Mcqueen, un terrícola que por azares del destino ayudó a derrocar a un tirano en un planeta extraterrestre (Tantalus), cuando regresa a la tierra su historia fue el hazme reír de todos y lo consideraron loco, luego de muchos años, Duke está viejo y abatido, su esposa fallece, que fuese su consejera, amiga y confidente, quedando solo y distanciado de sus hijos quienes le creen loco.

Todo cambia cuando un extraterrestre Space-Boy lo busca para que le ayude a salvar al planeta Tantalus de nuevo, sin embargo, Duke está muy viejo y deprimido pero el volver a ese mundo hizo que se rejuveneciera.

Esta mini-serie mezcla los cómics clásicos de ciencia ficción de la década de 1950-1960, como por ejemplo Flash Gordon, pero le otorga otra dimensión al personaje cuando lo coloca en circunstancias semejantes pero mucho más viejo, que da la sensación de estar en un filme de Clint Eastwood (Gran Torino, Los Imperdonables).

El final cierra con gracia y pulcritud una historia que evolucionó de manera agradable y adictiva, Duke regresa como el héroe que es y la vejez en cambio de ser una desventaja es sabiduría que lo hace superar a sus adversarios, alcanzando el respeto y la redención, sus palabras sobre lo que significa la opresión y la respuesta de la gente mediante la esperanza deberían difundirse en el mundo. 

La historia finaliza resaltando la importancia de tener una familia, como sea, funcional o disfuncional, el valor que te da y la responsabilidad de llevarla, aunque es un cómic de contenido para adultos, los valores que presentan son universales y no comunes en la industria.

Por otro lado el arte de Goran Parlov es totalmente acertado para la historia, logra dar esa nostalgia de esos cómics de pulpa de los años 1950 y 1960, por ejemplo la firma constante en cada cuadro ilustrado, eso es un toque genial, por otro lado sus dibujos posen ángulos y detalles frescos.

Sin lugar a duda StarLight es una mini-serie de lectura obligada, 5/5 estrellas, el final cierra por completo la historia, sin embargo le preguntamos a Millar si habría una nueva entrega, y es posible que sea una pre-cuela de esta historia, es decir, cuando Duke fue por primera vez a Tantalus.

PD: Es importante acotar que el cómic anuncia que el próximo proyecto de Millarworld será una pre-cuela de la otra exitosa "Jupiter´s Legacy" que narra las aventuras de Utopyan en la cima de su fama y acciones super-heroicas, solo que el ilustrador será Wilfredo Torres ya que Frank Quitely (actual ilustrador y co-creador) está muy ocupado con el segundo volumen.

When Duke saves Tantalus the first time

Everything changes when an alien called "Space-Boy" which seeks for the help of Duke to save once  again the planet Tantalus, however, Duke is very old and depressed but return to that world did rejuvenated him in some ways.

This mini-series mix classic science fiction comics of the decade of 1950-1960, such as Flash Gordon, but gives another dimension to the character when placed in similar circumstances, but much older, which gives the feeling of being in a film by Clint Eastwood (Gran Torino, Unforgiven).

The end closes the story with grace and neatness that evolved in a enjoyable and addictive way, Duke returns as the hero is and old age, instead of being a disadvantage it’s wisdom was his advantage to outdo their opponents, reaching respect and redemption. All his words on what it means oppression and the response of the people should be disseminated by the hope in the world.

The story ends by stressing the importance of having a family, whatever, functional or dysfunctional, the value given and the responsibility to take, although it is a comic adult content, the values ​​presented are universal and not common in the industry .

On the other hand the art of Goran Parlov is perfect for the history, manages to give the nostalgia of those pulp comics of the 50s and 60s, for example the constant signature on many panels, that's a great touch, on the other hand his work feels  fresh and full of details.

Undoubtedly "StarLight”  it’s a must-read, 5/5 stars, the final issue closes completely the story, however we asked Millar if he will make another volume, and he said that maybe a prequel, that is  when Duke was first to Tantalus.

PS: It is important to note that this comic announces Millarworld’s next project, a prequel to the other successful "Jupiter's Legacy" that chronicles the adventures of Utopian at the top of his fame and super-heroic actions, the illustrator will Wilfredo Torres and won’t be Frank Quitely (current illustrator and co-creator) because he is very busy with the second volume, and has had some delays, but these delays brings excellent and awesome detailed art.
