Arte

Synopsis
HYDE STREET ISN’T SAFE FOR ANYONE—INCLUDING ITS RESIDENT GHOULS, PSYCHOS, AND KILLERS! When Pranky steals a cursed werewolf mask from his Hyde Street nemesis Mr. X-Ray, the world’s most dangerous scout finds himself transformed into a pint-sized wolf-kid. Unable to remove it from his face, a humbled Pranky must ask for help from X-Ray and the neighborhood’s sinister surgeon Doctor Ego. But none of them or the other residents are prepared for what’s stalking them from the shadows: The Butcher of Hyde Street has escaped imprisonment, stalks his fellow Residents, and basks in their blood. Collects HYDE STREET #8-12

Plot
This volume begins to reveal more about the intentions and origins of the evil Residents, who are forced to collect ten thousand souls to escape this street for SCOREKEEPER, whose true power is still unknown.

Residents Pranky, Mrs. Goodbody, Mr. X-Ray, Doctor Ego, and Sisterhood are beginning to despair, especially Sisterhood and Pranky, who want to speak with the mysterious Butcher of Hyde Street, trapped in a castle guarded by the Monster Matinee.

This volume concludes with the Butcher of Hyde Street escaping and eliminating the Residents who stand in his way. That's how powerful he is, and he knows SCOREKEEPER's true name.

It's as if the anthology series The Twilight Zone and Alfred Hitchcock Presents were combined into a unified universe—that's how brilliant and chilling HYDE STREET is.

Rating: 5 out of 5

Art
The art is organic and full of mesmerizing details that lend a somber tone to what initially seem to be innocuous moments, with excellent facial expressions and masterful use of body language, all within a retro aesthetic that evokes the same eerie atmosphere as 1980s supernatural and slasher horror films.

THE BUTCHER, Part 2.
The Butcher of Hyde Street has escaped—and the tremors are felt in every shadowed corner of the neighborhood. As fear grips the Residents, one question hangs in the air: who will be his next victim?

Plot
Pranky arrives at the Butcher of Hyde Street prison, confident that freeing him will allow him to see his mother. However, he must confront The Matinee Monsters/Oscar. They fight, and Pranky manages to defeat him, freeing The Butcher, who then brutally murders Pranky with his knife.

Mr. X-Ray swears he spoke with his daughter, even though Doctor Ego saw nothing. Mr. X-Ray tells him that Scorekeeper's real name is Edmund Ripley. Doctor Ego's nurses begin searching the medical records for this name.

Sisterhood also sensed Mr. X-Ray's daughter's presence and goes to speak with him about it. They witness The Butcher of Hyde Street attacking Mrs. Goodbody, who is easily killing the residents, while Scorekeeper senses The Butcher of Hyde Street's presence.

A shocking episode. All the residents of Hyde Street are shaken, and The Butcher of Hyde Street is finally free to execute his secret agenda.

What does it come from?

NEW STORY ARC

"Hide your hands, hide your feet… the Butcher’s back on Hyde Street."

THE BUTCHER OF HYDE STREET: PART ONE. The first horror event of the breakout series begins here. One of the most infamous and terrifying Residents in Hyde Street history has returned—unleashed after decades of imprisonment. But this isn’t just a killing spree…it’s the beginning of a reckoning. And no one on Hyde Street is ready for what’s coming next…or what happened before.

Plot
This installment picks up where Hyde Street #8 left off, with Pranky trying to remove Mr. X-Ray's glasses while wearing the werewolf mask, following Doctor Ego's advice. Pranky must confront his past and stop feeling like a monster, so he relives his birth on a battlefield where he was taken from his mother. Scorekeeper has Pranky's mother's soul trapped to blackmail him. But the Butcher of Hyde Street appears to "help" Pranky and grants him a few seconds with his mother, but this comes at a price... The Butcher of Hyde Street demands that he release him in the castle.

Meanwhile, Pranky escapes, and Mr. X-Ray has his glasses back. He sees his daughter Judy open a kind of portal and tells her father that nothing is as it seems, that she is trapped by Scorekeeper, and most shockingly, reveals that his name is Edmund Ripley.

This new arc begins with revelations, and all the residents of Hyde Street start searching for a way out of Scorekeeper's clutches. Cosmic paranormal horror with an addictive narrative, where it moves beyond being an anthology to present a unified plot.

Art
It offers a retro aesthetic and the same gloomy effect as supernatural horror and slasher films of the 1980s. It's detailed and achieves amazing facial expressions.

Summary
A new arc with powerful revelations about Scorekeeper and its residents, especially The Butcher of Hyde Street, who is about to unleash his wrath

What does it come from?
She’s read palms, rigged séances, and whispered lies for coin. In 1920, Sister Hood was just another con artist in lace and lace fronts—until her grift drew the wrath of the Scorekeeper and landed her in the cursed dimension known as Hyde Street. Now, a man named Mr. X-Ray walks through her parlor door. And he’s not here for a reading. He’s here to rewrite his fate, and hers.

Plot
This issue continues introducing the residents of Hyde Street, as they have been doing since issue #6 (it's a good idea to reread HYDE STREET VOL. 1). This time, it's Sister Hood's turn, the clairvoyant who uses her supposed powers of sleight of hand to deceive wicked people who fall into Hyde Street. Her deceptive tactics are detailed in the Sister Hood miniseries.

Currently, Mr. X-ray, Pranky, Matinee Monster,Mrs Goodbody and Doctor Ego have already been introduced. The Demon Within, Raquel Vane, and Green Blood, who trap souls for the even more mysterious and perverse Scorekeeper, are still to be revealed.

Sister Hood's Tarot cards begin to reveal mysterious figures, and one card disappears. She then heads to the castle where Matinee Monster lives, who is holding the mysterious Butcher of Hyde Street. Clarissa wants to speak with him because he knows too much about this cursed place called Hyde Street.

The comic then flashes back to 1920, when Clarissa (Sister Hood) and her sister Lucinda were swindling people by making them believe they were communicating with their deceased loved ones from beyond the grave. Lucinda regrets what they're doing, but Clarissa doesn't care; she only wants the money.

Everything changes when they are caught by the Scorekeeper, who offers them both a deal: one will be transformed into a dove as collateral, a constant reminder of what happens as long as the other sister continues collecting souls. Once she reaches ten million, she will be freed, and the one who became a dove will be forever a part of Hyde Street.

Clarissa has collected almost all the souls at an impressive speed, but her efficiency has slowed as she tries to figure out how to escape that place and save her sister from that eternal curse. She doesn't yet know how, but the Butcher of Hyde Street seems to, and he's blackmailing her. That's why he possesses the missing Tarot card with Pranky's image; the two are mysteriously linked.

This saga improves with each installment, each one revealing more mysteries that piece together this puzzle of cosmic mystery and horror.

Art
The art style offers intricate details thanks to its lighting, showcasing the cruelty of these abhorrent and vicious beings of Hyde Street. Mesmerizing and stunning.

Summary
The story of Sister Hood and her fear of completing the Scorekeeper mission is revealed, and new mysteries and clues emerge.
