REVELACIÓN EN LA COMIC-CON DE SAN DIEGO:GHOST MACHINE Y MEZCO TOYZ PRESENTARON LA FIGURA DE ACCIÓN DE JUNKYARD JOE

Ten-HUT!

1.- This new extended universe of Geiger will occour to different time lines?

GEOFF: Geiger takes place 25 years in the future after the mysterious Unknown War left most of the world poisoned with radioactive fallout. Our initial story introduced Tariq Geiger, Ground Zero took a look at his early beginnings, and now the new monthly series launching in April (but teased in January’s Ghost Machine #1) will focus on what’s next for The Glowing Man. After getting word there may be a cure to his condition, Geiger sets off in search of it… but there are a lot of people after him for various (and violent) reasons. But although The Glowing Man only wants to be left alone, he’ll be pulled into the lives and troubles of those around him on his quest to leave the monster he’s become behind and find the man he was again.

GARY: No, the new stories occur in the same universe/timeline as the original series (and Junkyard Joe).

2.- Why you include Geiger and Junkyard the difficult circunstances that war veterans endure? Do you think this social real drama is not often talked about?

GARY: Certainly in comics this doesn’t seem to be talked about often. War is more often portrayed as exciting but our stories usually have an emotional core so to create a book just about fighting and action isn’t particularly interesting. Junkyard Joe was a chance to explore and draw attention to some important things going on our society and to talk about it in a way that will engage people. It also gave us the practical possibility of helping some charities doing great work.

GEOFF: Nearly all of the characters in THE UNNAMED, from Redcoat to Junkyard Joe to Geiger, have their beginnings in times of war across the history of the United States of America. Redcoat’s story begins during the American Revolutionary War. Junkyard Joe’s the Vietnam War. Geiger’s the Unknown War. The others we will eventually introduce – like The Northerner and Widow X – also find their stories born out of different wartimes. The Unnamed looks at how war affects, changes, destroys, and even ultimately rebuilds people in different ways. War has led to great change on a societal scale – but The Unnamed looks at it on an individual scale. The person, single life, that is forever altered. That’s what makes this universe of characters so interesting to me. Although their stories take place in different timelines, they allshare that.

3.- In 2024 Geiger returns for a montly series, will it be a limited series like a Trilogy or a long run?

GARY: It will be an ongoing. Hopefully it will outlast us both.

GEOFF: With Ghost Machine, I am committed 100% to the titles and characters. For me, it’s about returning to the monthly books, the longform storytelling I loved when I was writing Green Lantern, The Flash and Teen Titans. There’s something I’ve missed in this current era. We’ll have limited series, sure, they’re great too, but Geiger is a monthly book and it gives me a chance to explore the characters in a way a limited series doesn’t. I have a large over-arching story planned for years and I’m beyond excited to do it. This is why I had to leave DC and commit 100% to Ghost Machine. I need all my focus here and I want it to be here. It’s beyond fun.

4.- What can we expect for this new universe? How long it will be in terms of comic series that will support the four sub-universes?

GEOFF: You can expect beautiful artwork and compelling characters. That’s what we want to create. The best books month-in and month-out that we can make. We love comics, we love these characters and we’re all in it for the long term.

5.- Can You say something about the Geiger adaptation on Paramount?

GEOFF: Justin Simien is directing and everyone is very happy with where we are. The strikes delayed us, as it did everyone, but we’re very optimistic for what’s ahead for The Glowing Man and his two-headed furry sidekick, Barney.

Questions about the art to Gary Frank

1.- What were your inspiration (books, movies, cómics) to design Geiger and Junkyard Joe?

GARY: For Geiger, I think it was the radiation thing and the idea of a guy who looks like a living x-ray image. The hood came from an evocation of Death and the glowing thing, again, was from thinking of him as something like a roiling reactor core- energy and death in human form.

2.-  Your art has the strong and bold visión of a movie director? What are your favorite directors?

GARY: Thank you. My favourite movies are mostly from the Cohen brothers but my favourite movie of all time is Jaws so I guess that means Spielberg is in there.  I have a very broad range of tastes. I love PT Anderson and Denis Villeneuve is always visually striking. It’s hard to know the levels of influence because it’s most unconscious.

3.- When you draw a page with many details, you begin with the landscape of You left all that on the end?

GARY: Depends on what is important. Sometimes that is landscape but, for me, it’s mostly about the characters so they take priority.
I try not to hammer the reader with too much peripheral detail- I don’t want them being dragged constantly out of the story to admire superfluous stuff. I try to find a balance so that there is enough there for the environment to feel real and enough so that the readers’ subconscious can fill in during the moments where the pacing quickens and the images need to be absorbed more immediately- during those moments, excessive background details can clutter and distract.

4.- How involved are you in Geiger adaptation? Will you be in charge in the conceptual art?

GARY: I’ll be able to weigh in but my preference is to trust whoever is doing that job to know there work better than I do.

Many thanks to the marketing team at Ghost Machine Productions.

A GEIGER TV adaptation is in development at Paramount TV with director Justin Simien; (2) ROOK: EXODUS; (3) FAMILY ODYSSEYS, THE ROCKETFELLERS; and its HORROR UNIVERSE with 4) HYDE STREET. Following Ghost Machine #1, Ghost Machine’s titles will begin shipping in April 2024 with an all-new ongoing GEIGER series, REDCOAT and ROOK: EXODUS. https://ghostmachinepro.com/
