Este octubre, AGE OF REVELATION lleva al Universo Marvel 10 años hacia un futuro donde el mundo ha sido transformado por el heredero de Apocalipsis, Doug Ramsey, también conocido como Revelación.

Anunciado la semana pasada, AGE OF REVELATION #0, un número sorpresa de preludio, estará disponible en tiendas seleccionadas a finales de esta semana y ya se pueden pedir copias adicionales. AGE OF REVELATION, a new status quo taking place 10 years into the future and arising out of current developments in the X-Men titles, begins in October.

New York, NY— July 14, 2025 — This October, AGE OF REVELATION takes the Marvel Universe 10 years into a future where the world has been reshaped by Apocalypse’s heir, Doug Ramsey AKA Revelation!

 

Announced last week, AGE OF REVELATION #0, a surprise prelude issue, will be available at select retailers later this week and additional copies can be ordered now. AGE OF REVELATION officially begins this October in AGE OF REVELATION OVERTURE #1, a one-shot by current X-Men creative team, writer Jed MacKay and artist Ryan Stegman. Following that, AGE OF REVELATION continues in bold new titles, including an evolution of the entire current X-Men line. "MONTY NERO"

Monty Nero en la New York Comic Con 2013, fuente blog de Rob Patey

Este joven escritor de origen británico que comenzó su carrera como escritor en proyectos independientes "creator owned" (los creadores son los dueños de los derechos de autor), su reciente proyecto llamado "Death Sentence" (Sentencia de Muerte), editado por Titan Comics, e ilustrado por Mike Dowling, donde unos jóvenes tiene la oportunidad de obtener super-poderes pero eso significaba que morirían en menos de 6 meses, esta interesante premisa muestra la reacción de nuestra banalidades como sociedad.

Actualmente escribe proyectos propios o de las grandes editoriales Marvel y DC, este miércoles está por salir a la venta "Uncanny X-men Annual #1" donde Tormenta lidera el equipo de mutantes de "Amazing X-men" a enfrentar a un nuevo enemigo en el continente africano.

Monty Nero amablemente se tomo un tiempo de su complicada y exigente agenda para responder una entrevista de ocho preguntas acerca de su trabajo en la industria del cómic, se presentará primero la versión traducida y luego se colocará tal cual las respuestas escritas por este gran escritor en ascenso, de quien estaremos escuchando noticias agradables en un futuro cercano:

1) ¿Cuál fue tu motivación como escritor de cómics? ¿Tuviste algún familiar o amigo que te introdujo en ese universo?

No, ninguno de mis familiares o amigos leían cómics. Un amigo en la escuela me introdujo en los cómics modernos quien me trajo toda su colección 2000AD un día cuando yo estaba enfermo . Cómics como "Thrill Power Overload"! donde el arte tomó mi interés de inmediato, en lugar de cómo se contaban las historias . Pero a medida que crecía en mi adolescencia me sentí que podía contar las historias mejor, en esa manera ilusa y arrogante que tienes cuando eres joven.

2) ¿Cuál es tu fuente de inspiración, libros de ciencia ficción, otros cómics o las noticias diarias? 

La mayor parte de mi inspiración la tomo del mundo que me rodea . Trato de reflejar los temas importantes del día , y muchas de las historias y personajes que uso se basan en combinaciones de personas y eventos reales. Creo que la vida es demasiado corta como para escribir historias que no tienen importancia , que no significan algo. La otra fuente de inspiración es cualquier historia que me hubiese emocionado cuando era un niño, que es más parecido a cumplir un deseo. Aunque cuando estoy escribiendo tengo que incluir cierta resonancia del mundo real para que la historia funcione para mí.

3) En tu mini-serie "Sentencia de Muerte" exploras la idea de qué pasaría si de repente adquieres un gran poder, sin importar si pierdes la vida en el proceso, ¿Tu crees que el poder puede corromper a cualquiera?

No, no soy una persona muy cínica. Pero como el resto de mi generación soy bastante sarcástico, incluso cuando realmente no quiero serlo. Es como una enfermedad, de la implacable sarcasmo que permea nuestro generación . O un lujo - en que no hemos tenido que ir a la guerra o han sido arruinadas por  pandemias o tener no que madurar para nada. Así que seguimos siendo los niños de la escuela risitas en la parte trasera de la clase de vida, tomando el pelo y participar de una manera distante e irónica. Tiendo a tanto celebrar y condenar este fenómeno en mi trabajo. La historia "Sentencia de Muerte" se acerca más a la celebración y satirizando a la sociedad moderna, y lo que las personas piensan que es importante, en lugar de alguna lección vieja y canosa sobre el poder.

4) Tu próximo cómic es "Amazing X-men Annual #1" con el famoso ilustrador Salvador Larroca, ¿Qué se siente trabajar con una editorial como Marvel Comics y con personajes famosos como los Hombres X? 

Fue emocionante . Me sentí muy halagado cuando me lo pidieron y fue muy divertido pensar en los personajes y la elaborar cosas interesantes para ellos. Es muy diferente a hacer mis propios cómics, ya que es mucho más de colaboración con el editor y el artista. En un cómic de Marvel el artista y el editor tienen bastante influencia en la forma en que la historia y los personajes funcionan, mientras que en "Death Sentence" puedo editar todos los contenidos y si no soy feliz con todos los elementos, se cambian. Así que fue una nueva experiencia para mí y uno que disfruté. "Amazing X-men Annual #1" está a la venta este miércoles (04 de junio 2014).

5) ¿Crees que los cómics independientes tipo "Creator Owned" (los creadores son los dueños) son el futuro de la industria del cómic?

Sí y No. Por un lado gente como yo y Mike podemos crear nuestros propios cómics y vivir de eso, lo cual es maravilloso. Así que los creadores siempre van a querer hacer eso. Pero, por otro lado, siempre habrá personajes como Batman, Spiderman- caracteres que se venden a las grandes empresas y son escritos y dibujados por miles de personas diferentes. Ambos tipos de cómics prosperarán.

6) ¿Estás interesado en hacer un proyecto en "Kickstarter" acerca de cómics?

Sí, me encantaría - para un proyecto realmente único que no puede ser hecho de otra manera. No sé mucho acerca de "Kickstarter", pero parece como un montón de trabajo y un gran enfoque en hacerlo bien. No se puede hacer a la ligera, no con esa enorme responsabilidad de las personas que respaldan el cómic , así que sólo lo haría cuando puedo darlo todo. Por el momento estoy muy ocupado trabajando en cómics independientes "creator owned", y escribiendo cosas para otras personas.

7) ¿Cuántas horas al día inviertes escribiendo?

Yo trabajo un promedio de alrededor de seis horas al día en el teclado, y pasar un par de horas pensando en cosas y tomando notas . Y cuando hago cualquier dibujo o pintura tiende a ser más tiempo por las tardes o fines de semana, aunque esto no puedes llamarlo trabajo. Estoy pintando las cubiertas para el primer número de  "Death Sentence 2" este fin de semana, y ha sido muy agradable.

8) ¿Podrías comentar cuál es tu próximo proyecto?

El próximo gran proyecto en el que estoy trabajando es el segundo volumen de "Death Sentence". Eso tomará la mayor parte de mi atención. También estoy trabajando en otra cosa para Marvel y Vertigo , y estoy escribiendo una novela, aunque no estoy seguro cuál conseguiré terminar de primero . Probablemente lo de Marvel, porque es un sólo cómic.

1) What was your motivation as a comic book writer? Do you have a relative or friend who introduced in this universe? 

No, non of my relatives or family read comics. I was introduced to modern comics by a pal at school who just dumped his entire 2000ad collection upon me one day when I was ill. Talk about a Thrill Power Overload! And my immediate interest was in the art, rather than how the stories were told. But as I grew into my teens I just felt I could tell the stories better, in that that arrogantly deluded way you have when you're young.

2)What is your source of inspiration, the SCFI books, another comics or daily news?

I take most of my inspiration from the world around me. I try and reflect the important issues of the day, and a lot of the stories and characters I use are based on combinations of real people and events. I think life's too short to write stories that don't matter, that don't mean something. The other source of inspiration is anything that excited me about stories as a child, which is more wish fulfilment. Though when I'm writing those up I still have to engineer some real world resonance to make it work for me.

3)In your miniseries "Death Sentence" explore the idea of what happens if you suddenly acquire a great power, no matter if you lose your life in the process, Do you think that power can corrupt everyone? 

 No. I'm not a very cynical person. Though like the rest of my generation I am quite sarcastic, even when I don't really want to be. It's like an affliction, the relentless sarcasm that pervades our age group.  Or a luxury - in that we haven't had to go to war or been blighted by pandemics or had to grow up at all really. So we're still the giggling school kids at the back of the class of life, taking the piss and participating in a detached and ironic way. I tend to both celebrate and condemn this phenomenon in my work.  The Death Sentence story is more about celebrating and lampooning modern society, and what people think is important, rather than some hoary old lesson about power.

4)Your next comic is "Amazing X-Men Annual # 1" with the famous illustrator Salvador Larroca, what is it like to work with a publisher like Marvel Comics and with famous characters such as the X-Men?

 It was exciting. I was very flattered to be asked and it was great fun thinking about the characters and devising some cool stuff for them to do. It's very different to making my own comics, in that it's much more collaborative with the editor and the artist. On a Marvel comic the artist and the editor quite properly have a huge influence on how the story and the characters turn out, whereas in Death Sentence I edit all the content and if I'm not happy with every element it gets changed. So it was a new experience for me and one I enjoyed. It's out on Wednesday (June 4th 2014).

5)Do you believe that creator owned books is the future of the comics industry?

Yes and No. On the one hand people like me and Mike can create our own comics and make a living at it now, which is amazing. So creators are always going to want to do that. But on the other there will always be characters like Batman, and Spiderman - characters sold to big companies and written and drawn by thousands of different people. Both types of comic will prosper.

6)Are you interested in doing a project on Kickstarter about comics?

 Yes, I'd love to - for a really unique project that I couldn't get made any other way. I don't know much about kickstarter, but It seems like a lot of work and a lot of focus to do it right. You can't do it lightly, not with that huge responsibility to the people backing the comic, so I'd only do it when I can give it everything. At the moment I'm too busy working on creator owned comics, and writing stuff for other people. 

7)How many hours a day is you invests writing?

 I work an average of about six hours a day at the keyboard, and spend another couple of hours thinking about stuff and making notes. And when I do any drawing or painting that tends to be extra time in the evenings or weekends these days, though you could hardly call it work. I’m painting the covers for the first issue of Death Sentence volume 2 this weekend, and it’s been very enjoyable.

8)Can you say what is your next comic book project?

 The next big project I'm working on is the second volume of Death Sentence. That's taking most of my attention. I'm also working on something else for Marvel and Vertigo, and writing a novel, though I'm not sure what which'll get finished first. Probably the Marvel thing, because it's only one issue.
