Sinopsis
¡Vive la clásica aventura de terror de los Apalaches de Hellboy que inspiró la nueva película! Hellboy ayuda a un joven que vendió su alma al aterrador Crooked Man en la serie original de Mignola y Richard Corben y la inspiración para la nueva película. En la secuela de Mignola y Zach Howard, Hellboy se enfrenta nuevamente a la leyenda popular cuando alguien (o algo) se ha mudado a la mansión del Crooked Man en un bosque remoto con malas intenciones.

Trama
Este tomo se divide en dos partes, ilustradas por artistas diferentes, pero conectadas ocn la historia de Tom Ferrel:
1.- THE CROOKED MAN:
Esta historia ocurre en las montañas Apalaches en Virginia, EE.UU, en el año 1958.
Hellboy busca a Cora Fisher por supuesta bruja que dejó a una muchacha catatónica, en ese momento aparece un antiguo residente llamado Tom Ferrel, él descubre una Witch-Ball que le hizo daño.
Tom Ferrel va con Hellboy a buscar a Cora, a quien conoció de niño y le extraña que ella fuese bruja ahora.
La razón por la que Tom se fue del pueblo es porque conoció a la bruja Effie, quien le enseñó a invocar al diablo usando un ritual para conseguir un hueso de la suerte al hervir un gato. Pero Tom escapó sin nunca usar este hueso, ahora le debe algo a Crooked Man.
Consiguen a Cora quien se hizo bruja luego de una pérdida personal y es un Títere de Effie, que llega con un caballo que es en realidad el padre de Tom, quien fallece en el momento.
Tom va a llevar a su padre a ser enterrado, lo acompaña Hellboy y Cora. Pero ella se detiene cuando llega al territorio de las brujas Melungeun, ella fallece en la travesía.
Al llegar a la iglesia, están rodeados por brujas, al padre Nathaniel acompañado por el fantasma de Cora quien le ayuda a entender lo que pasa.
Crooked Man llega al sitio a reclamar el alma de Tom porque hace años le había regalado el hueso que conlleva a un gran poder de brujas. Crooked Man cuando estaba vivo y causó desgracias en la guerra de independencia de EE.UU. al armar a ambas partes y robar sus almas. Al final lo colgaron, por eso tiene el cuello torcido.
El reverendo Natahanial Amstrong toma el hueso de la suerte de Tom e invocando al espíritu santo funde una cruz en la pala y se convierte en un arma que Hellboy usa para golpear a Crooked Man y así lo elimina y a toda la magia negra de las brujas que los acompañaban
Tom y Hellboy usan el huso por última vez al liberar a todas las almas atrapadas por Crooked Man que estaban en unos frascos llenos de insectos horripilantes.
Effie ahora es vieja, los años se le notn y no tiene poderes, por lo que Hellboy y Tom la castigan al ponerle los frenos del caballo que tenía el padre de Tom ella se convierte en bruja, es ahora una yegua que va a vivir eternamente sufriendo como un animal.
Esta historia es escalofriante, mezcla el horror folk con historia de brujas y nos introducen a un ser horripilante que lleva siglos trabajando para el diablo.
Esta historia fue usada por el guión de la venidera película con el mismo nombre, que si capturan al menos la mitad de su historia escalofriante, será un gran éxito y una película de culto instantánea.

Richard Corben es una leyenda que logra ese arte detallado con un tono lúgubre perfecto, pero su importan parecen pequeños gérmenes que se unen para formar esta obra maestra.

2.- THE RETURN OF EFFIE KOLB
Esta historia ocurre en las montañas Apalaches en Virginia,EE.UU, en el año 1961.
Hellboy se encuentra de nuevo con Tom, quien esta visiblemente más anciano, le le cuenta que tiene bajo su cuidado a una joven llamada Sara, quien creen que es bruja, pero ella en realidad solo ve el futuro y ver que Effie regresa.
Hellboy y Sara se embarcan a investigar una casa donde ella tiene sus premoniciones, que era la mansión de Crooked Man, la verdad es que en ese lugar tiene a Effie, la cuida un fanatico llamado Karl con su hermana Amelia.
Hellboy y Sara caen en su trampa al conseguir las riendas que hacían Effie ser una yegua, pero para detener a Effie hace falta la pala que tiene Tom, pero gracias a un dibujo de Sara, la pala aparece y finalmente la eliminan, Tom ahora vivirá lo que le queda de vida tranquilo..
Sara desaparece en la explosion pero ella en realidad escapa a conocer sobre su paso.

Plot
This volume is divided into two parts, illustrated by different artists, but connected to the story of Tom Ferrel:
1.- THE CROOKED MAN:
This story takes place in the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia, USA, in 1958.
Hellboy is looking for Cora Fisher for being a supposed witch who left a girl catatonic, at that moment an old resident named Tom Ferrel appears, he discovers a Witch-Ball that hurt her.
Tom Ferrel goes with Hellboy to look for Cora, whom he met as a child and is surprised that she is a witch now.
The reason why Tom left the town is because he met the witch Effie, who taught him to summon the devil using a ritual to get a lucky bone by boiling a cat. But Tom escaped without ever using this bone, now he owes something to Crooked Man.
They get Cora who became a witch after a personal loss and is a Puppet of Effie, who arrives with a horse that is actually Tom's father, who dies at the time.
Tom is going to take his father to be buried, accompanied by Hellboy and Cora. But she stops when she reaches the territory of the Melungeun witches, she dies on the journey.
Upon arriving at the church, they are surrounded by witches, Father Nathaniel accompanied by the ghost of Cora who helps him understand what is happening.
Crooked Man arrives at the site to claim Tom's soul because years ago he had given him the bone that carries great power of witches. Crooked Man when he was alive and caused misfortunes in the American war of independence by arming both sides and stealing their souls. In the end they hanged him, that's why his neck is crooked.
Reverend Nathaniel Armstrong takes Tom's wishbone and invokes the Holy Spirit and melts a cross on the shovel, which becomes a weapon that Hellboy uses to hit Crooked Man, thus eliminating him and all the black magic of the witches who accompanied them.
Tom and Hellboy use the spindle for the last time by freeing all the souls trapped by Crooked Man who were in jars full of horrifying insects.
Effie is now old, the years are showing and she has no powers, so Hellboy and Tom punish her by putting the bridles of the horse that Tom's father had on her. She is now a mare that will live eternally suffering like an animal.
This story is chilling, it mixes folk horror with the story of witches and introduces us to a horrifying being that has been working for the devil for centuries.
This comic was used for the script of the upcoming movie with the same name, which if they capture even half of its chilling story, will be a huge hit and an instant cult movie.

Richard Corben is a legend who achieves that detailed art with a perfect gloomy tone, but his import seems like little germs that come together to form this masterpiece.

2.- THE RETURN OF EFFIE KOLB
This story takes place in the Appalachian Mountains in Virginia, USA, in the year 1961.
Hellboy meets Tom again, who is visibly older, he tells him that he has under his care a young girl named Sara, who they think is a witch, but she really only sees the future and sees Effie returning.
Hellboy and Sara embark to investigate a house where she has her premonitions, the old house of Crooked Man, the truth is that in that place she has Effie, she is taken care of by a fanatic named Karl with his sister Amelia.
Hellboy and Sara fall into her trap by finding the reins that made Effie be a mare, but to stop Effie they need the shovel that Tom has, but thanks to a drawing by Sara, the shovel appears and they finally eliminate her, Tom will now live the rest of his life in peace.
Sara disappears in the explosion but she actually escapes to learn about her passage.
