Sinopsis de MIND MGMT: NEW & IMPROVED

  • Flux House ha creado grandes historias con Dark Horse como Subgenre, IF YOU FIND THIS, I’M ALREADY DEAD y SPACE SCOUTS.

  • This new saga talks a lot about Jungian psychology terms regarding the existence and possible manipulation of the collective unconscious, which can become the perfect weapon for spies and politicians. Did you base these ideas on Carl Jung's psychology?

Thank you so much! I appreciate that… I don’t think those ideas are Jung’s…I mean, I think it’s an idea we all really share, you know? It’s in the ether and I’m just plucking that string so we can all hear it, whether we’re conscious of it or now.

  • Oni Press promotion gives a clue about a mysterious phone number (912-646-3646). Are we safe to dial it?

Please dial it! I will answer as quickly as I can, but as my friends know, I’m terrible about texting and calling back. And I’m even worse with email so it may be a little while before I can get back to you…but rest assured, we will be in contact. There’s a whole screening process but so far everyone has been pretty open-minded and open to suggestion. I would definitely NOT recommend calling it twice though…

  • This saga mentions the connection between scents and memories, which is a key psychic manifestation for solving the murders of other MIND MGMT agents. Is this mind-sense relationship something you, as a person, have experienced in any unpleasant way?

Hm. Good question. I’m not sure it happens in a negative way as much as a positive one, but as someone who’s been accused of having “toxic positivity” that may just be me. I think the smell of cut grass and fresh air through a window, and ground coffee, and a girl’s perfume can all trigger memories that we all kind of have in common. I’d be curious to hear what negative smells would be for other people. Off the top of my head, I can remember the farts me and my best friend had when we were 12 years old after eating cheetos and soda all day long. That’s kind of a negative experience linked to a good memory. Overheating radiator fluid - I know that smell too…so, yeah…those are a couple. Thanks for that!

  • What is the biggest challenge in writing and illustrating a project? What are the pros and cons, especially when dealing with such complex topics that require excellent creative vision?

Really, doing everything myself makes it easier than any other way. It’s streamlined - every part of the process flows through my hands so everything is integrated. It forces me to think about everything that shows up on the page from ink, to color, to lettering and balloon style and placement to extras stuff around the borders and even the kind of paper it’s printed on. As soon as you let any part of that go to someone else - it becomes slightly less a singular holistic vision of a story and idea and starts to fragment it. Some might say that sounds like someone with “control issues” but really, I just want to control it all. It’s no issue.

  • MIND MGMT: NEW & IMPROVED is a mix of many subgenres: noir, paranormal, espionage. Generally, your premises always lead you to build other genres, and you even start analyzing subgenres (like the comics subgenre). Where do these ideas with such original foundations come from? And what is the process of building and constructing something new?

Creativity is really like eating. Whatever you put into your body, is going to kind of dictate how it works and what comes out of it. All of those genres you mention - are things I’ve been feeding into my brain since I was ten years old. You won’t meet a good writer that doesn’t read, or a good artist that doesn’t study art, or a good director who doesn’t watch movies. You consume the thing you love because you love it and if you consume enough of it, eventually the need to create something becomes a compulsion. You have to do it. You want to create this new thing that sort of synthesizes all the disparate things you love into something new. I’m constantly trying to make a comic book that I would love to read…so that comic is going to have literally everything I love in it all jammed together.

  • Your comics always have what I call bursts of creativity, where with simple terms you manage to coin new objects, theories, etc. To achieve this you create a kind of bible of characters for each universe. How do you limit the creative definition of your creative universes?

Every universe has slightly different rules or hurdles that I build for myself. The main rule in MIND MGMT is that no one has “powers.” No one has something they’re just born being able to do. They have to be trained to do the thing…everyone as the ability within them to achieve different things - you just have to learn how to tap into it and make it stronger. So there’s an equality to the abilities in MIND MGMT that separates it from the X-Men and mutants who are born with their powers. X-Men is about something different - really it’s a metaphor for how we may all be born different but we all deserve equal treatment. Where, MIND MGMT ixxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx contains no metaphors whatsoever. It’s a fun, psi-fi thriller designed to entertain and distract from your worldly troubles! I mean, who wants to think all the time, right? Day to day is hard enough, the last thing anyone wants to do is sit down with a comic book and be presented with some literary metaphors.

  • Flux House has made such great tales with Dark Horse like Subgenre, IF YOU FIND THIS, I’M ALREADY DEAD and SPACE SCOUTS. What can we expect with the collaboration with Oni in the future? Could you continue with all these projects with Oni Press?

There are plans to continue a few things from old Flux House books but the book I’m most excited about is FORT PSYCHO which arrives in shops the month after MIND MGMT: New & Improved #1. It’s the first monthly comic collaboration with my long-time friend and studio-mate Brian Hurtt (Sixth Gun). We’ve secretly been working on this thing for over a year and we have so much of it already done…we were just looking for the right way to release it. It’s an all-out-action comic with gratuitous violence that’s also somehow completely integral to the narrative and the obligatory sex scenes. It’s got a mole-hunt, a prison island full of G.I. Joe-esque sociopaths and the best art of Brian’s career. This series is singular because it’s the only monthly comic being published right now where the writer and artist are working in the same studio every day to make this thing. We’re collaborating on design and art ideas and extra back story and story. It’s the most collaborative collaboration I’ve ever been a part of and I think we really channeled some magic.

  • Thank you again for this chance!

Thank you! I appreciate your time! If any of the answers seemed slightly disingenuous it’s all part of the MIND MGMT: New & Improved Objective-Based Marketing Strategy to Identify the Buyer Persona and Exploit It with Innocuous Information that Seemingly Inadvertently Conveys Deeper Meaning.  (NIOBMSIBPEISICDM for short.)* Call the number if you have any questions:

MATT KINDT AND DAVID LAPHAM TEAM UP FOR A NEW ACTION-ADVENTURE COMIC SERIES, “KNIGHT CITY”

Knight City

The new, original series featuring a team-up of two comics greats arrives February 2026

MILWAUKIE, Ore., (October 22, 2025)—Dark Horse Comics presents Knight City, a new action-adventure comic series from creators Matt Kindt and David Lapham. This three-issue series, written and colored by Kindt (BRZRKR, Mind MGMT), illustrated by Lapham (American Caper, Stray Bullets), and lettered by Joshua Reed, will begin with issue #1 arriving in stores in February 2026.

About Knight City:

A legendary hero is caught between two worlds. By day, he soars as a symbol of hope, but the moment he falls asleep, he enters a universe devoid of heroes where he leads a mundane life. As the pressure of his dual universes mounts, his heroic self begins to crack, pushing him toward a mental breakdown.

In a world that measures the loss of human life that occurs when he takes one night off, the weight of his responsibilities becomes too much. Ultimately, he’s left with a choice: embrace his extraordinary abilities or seek solace in the ordinary.

Will he stand tall in a world that needs him, or find peace in a simpler existence?

"I wanted to write a story where the most powerful hero on earth can't sleep because he can hear the cries for help no matter where he is...and it's driving him crazy,” said Kindt. “Until he wakes up and he has no powers. And he's a normal guy and happy. Then he's forced to make a choice - does he sacrifice his mental health to help earth or does he protect himself and just live a normal life. I think there's something compelling about that choice and I'm not sure what the right answer is...so we made this book to figure it out. Working with Dave is pure joy and he makes everything he touches twice as good."

“It’s always great to work with, Matt,” added Lapham. “He has the most effortless imagination of anyone I’ve ever worked with, and somehow still leaves space for collaboration and my bonkers ideas. Knight City is superheroes that are totally familiar but in a way that’s completely sideways and couldn’t come from anyone else.”

Knight City #1 (of 3) will be available in comic shops on February 4, 2026 and is now available for pre-order at your local comic shop for $4.99.

Praise for Matt Kindt and David Lapham:

Kindt escribirá la serie con arte de Moustafa, colores de Brad Simpson (Summer Shadows, Let This One Be A Devil) y letras de Simon Bowland (The Hunger and the Dusk, Parasomnia).

Sobre JOHN LE CARRÉ: THE CIRCUS—LOSING CONTROL:

THE WORLD OF JOHN LE CARRÉ EXPANDS IN THE NEW SPY FICTION COMIC SERIES, “JOHN LE CARRÉ: THE CIRCUS—LOSING CONTROL”

THE WORLD OF JOHN LE CARRÉ EXPANDS IN THE NEW SPY FICTION COMIC SERIES, “JOHN LE CARRÉ: THE CIRCUS—LOSING CONTROL”

Written by Harvey Award-winning author Matt Kindt and illustrated by Eisner Award-nominated artist Ibrahim Moustafa

MILWAUKIE, Ore., (July 25, 2025)—Dark Horse Comics presents John le Carré: The Circus—Losing Control, a thrilling tale of espionage that expands the world created by John le Carré in The Spy Who Came in from the Cold, Tinker Tailor Solider Spy, and many other novels, developed in association with The Ink Factory.. Set in the modern day, the three-issue series unites two masters of spy fiction: Harvey Award-winning and New York Times Bestselling author Matt Kindt (Mind MGMT, Spy Superb) and Eisner Award-nominated artist Ibrahim Moustafa (RetroActive, James Bond: Origin). Kindt will write the series with art by Moustafa, colors by Brad Simpson (Summer Shadows, Let This One Be A Devil), and letters by Simon Bowland (The Hunger and the Dusk, Parasomnia).

About John Le Carré: The Circus—Losing Control:

Every day, behind closed doors, the men and women of The Circus are embroiled in high stakes, high-wire acts that the average citizen would never notice. These intelligence officers protect Britain’s most sensitive secrets. At the head of it all is Control: an all-powerful puppet master who decides who goes where, who does what, and sometimes, if necessary, who lives and who dies. But now, Control has vanished.

He doesn’t show up at the office. He misses his meetings. He won’t—or can’t—answer his phone. He is simply nowhere. Control’s assistant Maggie is the only one who knows he’s gone, and with a mole’s identity blown in Moscow, the clock is ticking. A member of “The Mothers” – the unsung fleet of assistants and secretaries who hold the show together behind the scenes of The Circus - Maggie knows every protocol, every password, and every operative—but she has no idea whether something has happened to Control or whether this is part of his plan. Either way, she can’t trust anyone. No-one can know Control is missing. And can she even trust Control?

Secrets within The Circus have a way of unravelling, and Maggie will have to act fast… or risk the walls tumbling down around her.

"Getting asked to contribute a piece to John le Carré's world of Smiley has been one of the greatest honors and responsibilities of my life,” said Kindt. “I wasn't looking for this job but I was called into service. And much like Smiley, my heart is in the right place and hopefully that will be enough."

Nick Harkaway, speaking on behalf of the John le Carré Estate, said: “Look at this! Just look at it! You open the book and Ibrahim’s amazing visuals immediately wrap you in the world. Then you get Matt’s story of lies, damned lies and espionage in a gripping modern iteration of the le Carré mode. You’re in safe hands from page one, and it’s a pleasure to lay The Circus: Losing Control at the feet of readers and see what they make of it all. But speaking as the resident comics nerd in this generation of the Cornwell family: I’m in. Give me more!"

John Le Carré: The Circus—Losing Control #1 (of 3) will be available in comic shops on November 19, 2025 and is now available for pre-order from your local comic shop for $5.99.

Praise for Matt Kindt and Moustafa Ibrahim:

“Kindt breaks all preconceived notions of what comic books are.”—IGN

“Kindt is a storyteller so fully in control of his gifts that his graphic novels read like quietly compelling arguments for the comics medium’s narrative potential.”—NPR

“RetroActive presents a fresh take on the time travel genre, with Ibrahim Moustafa delivering a story and artwork that’s laced with plenty of hard-hitting action and emotional weight.”—But Why Tho?

“Moustafa delivers some fun, impressive visuals throughout the issue. The art style is perfect for a classic style of comic storytelling and delivers on the tone and action beautifully.”—The Super Powered Fancast on Doctor Strange: Nexus of Nightmares

MILWAUKIE, Ore., (August 07, 2024)— Get ready to experience horrifying heroes, as Dark Horse Books invites fans of superhero action adventure to sink their teeth into a new edition of an original story, The Tooth. Writers Cullen Bunn (Monsters Are My Business), Shawn Lee, and writer/artist Matt Kindt join forces to present this new edition of The Tooth featuring the long out-of-print cult classic comic book in a newly designed paperback edition featuring a brand-new cover by Kindt.

Face front, horror hounds! The greatest of ghoulish gladiators gouges a gruesome gangway through your guts in the Grand Guignol tradition! Creepy Cullen Bunn, Sinister Shawn Lee, and Murderous Matt Kindt bring you the most spectacular of horrifying heroes—The Tooth!

Be the first kid on your block to follow the offbeat adventures of the Incredible Incisor, the Monstrous Molar, the Courageous Carnassial, as he squares off against vicious demons, hell-bent sorcerers, vengeful spirits, and undead dragons!

“THE TOOTH is one of my favorite and most strange stories,” said Bunn. “Shawn, Matt, and I really told a wild horror/adventure story with this one! Thinking back on the creation of the story, meeting with Matt and Shawn many times to discuss and develop this tale of terror and muscle-bound tooth monsters, I can say with no hyperbole that it was some of the most fun I ever had working on a comic. It's a trip into the manic monster mayhem comics that helped to make me who I am as a writer. I'm thrilled that new readers will have a chance to discover the story!”

“This is the first and only time I’ve ever drawn dragons,” confirmed Kindt. “A blood-sucking succubus, and necromantic she-beasts. I was absolutely scarred by the experience and I hope you are too!”
