What does it come from?
“THE NORTHERNER: DEAD AMERICA,” PART THREE The mysterious Northerner believes he can learn the truth behind The Unknown War that transformed Tariq Geiger into a nuclear monster and killed his family. Geiger not only doesn’t believe him, but isn’t sure he even wants to know. They trek towards Detroit, where the Department of Historical Preservation supposedly has the answers…but Northerner and Geiger might not like what they find…

Plot
Geiger, Barney, and The Northerner are threatened by a group of eight children (Moxie, Two-Bits, Honey Bee, Dot, Tilly, Orphan Annie, Honest Adam, and Gremlin) who call themselves the St. Louis Strays. They learned to use weapons and defend themselves from Ash Arden (Read Geiger #19).

Geiger enjoys the children's company, which reminds him of his family.

The Northerner explains that they are going to Detroit to the Department of Historic Preservation to find a solution to this war. Geiger reveals that he doesn't believe him and only wants to know why the department has a picture of his family. For the first time, Geiger appears happy and hopeful.

Geiger teaches these children the value of reading.

Finally, they arrive at these mysterious offices, only to be transported through time. Geiger travels to the past and finds his family.

This chapter continues to deepen the mystery of these time travels, showing a Geiger who can regain his hope. It's a moving installment.

Art
As usual, Gary Frank achieves the perfect balance of incredibly detailed and organic art with clear colors that reveal everything. Every panel on every page is mesmerizing; each time you look at it, you discover new and amazing details.

Rob Leigh's lettering is an onomatopoeic burst of adrenaline.

Summary
Geiger and The Northerner meet the St. Louis Stray Kids as they continue their journey to try to uncover the message from the Department of Historic Preservation. A hopeful and moving chapter.
