This June, join writer Jonathan Hickman and artist Bryan Hitch in ULTIMATE INVASION, a revolutionary four-issue saga that presents a surprising new chapter for Ultimate Comics and bold new strides for Marvel’s iconic heroes.

 

Launched over twenty years ago, the Ultimate Universe provided a contemporary take on classic Marvel characters and storylines. Known for its edginess and explosive action, the Ultimate Universe was home to some of Marvel’s most talked about and thought-provoking series of the 21^st century. The Ultimate Universe reached its cataclysmic end in 2015’s Secret Wars, but nothing stays buried in Marvel Comics for long. Is it time for the Ultimate Universe to make its grand return? “[Revisiting the idea of Ultimate Comics] couldn’t be replicating or revisiting what Bryan did in the original Ultimates — creating a streamlined, modernized version that would eventually become the spine of the MCU, and it certainly couldn’t be what I did, which was a final chapter of a pre-existing universe,” Hickman explained to Entertainment Weekly. “We also thought the very idea of Ultimate Comics needed to be inverted from what the original universe was — we wanted this to be something that could really only exist in the comic space: a new way of thinking about, and enjoying, a new version of the Marvel Universe. I’m pretty happy to say that it feels like we’ve accomplished those things and we’re very excited for everyone to get to read it.”

ENTREVISTA EXCLUSIVA CON "BRYAN HITCH" EN ESPAÑOL/INGLÉS

Con mucha emoción les presentamos esta entrevista de 10 preguntas con el legendario escritor/ilustrador Bryan Hitch.

Bryan Hitch nació el 6 de junio de 1970, el un artista británico de culto del cómic que ha trabajado con DC y Marvel. Se retiró de la universidad y tuvo la oportunidad de trabajar en Marvel UK con la serie Action Force que escribió y dibujó un mes después de cumplir los 17 años.

Su carrera se catapultó con de The Authority (Wildstorm) con DC Comics. En The Authority trabajó junto a Warren Ellis, donde se hizo conocer por su arte amplio, lo que se asemeja a un widescreen del mundo del cine. 

Su trabajo continuó evolucionando en The Ultimates, esta vez trabajando en colaboración con Mark Millar, este refrescamiento de los Avengers ha sido pilar fundamental de inspiración para los filmes de Marvel Studios.

En el año 2012 co-creó con Jonathan Ross la miniserie independiente Americás Got Powers, esta historia trata sobre los poderes que obtuvieron todos los niños que nacieron después de que recibieron la radiación de un meteorito que se estrelló en Los Angeles, y el gobierno usa este concurso como fachada para estudiar y analizar cada superpoder que tiene cada adolescente de esa asombrosa generación, es decir, usan el programa de talentos para probar y descubrir nuevos poderes para luego reproducirlos en secreto.

En el año 2013 terminó su trabajo de 10 años con Marvel con Age Of Ultron, escrito por Brian Bendis, de la cual ilustró la mitad de la serie. En este evento Ultron se apodera del mundo y vence a todos los Avengers. El segundo filme de Marvel Studios de los Avengers usó el mismo subtítulo (Avengers Age of Ultron).

A partir del año 2015, Hitch empezó a trabajar de manera exclusiva con DC Comics, escribiendo e ilustrando Justice League of America, para luego solo hacer las funciones de escritor en Justice Legue (e ilustrar solo las portadas).

1.- ¿Cuál fue tu motivación para convertirte en un ilustrador? ¿Un familiar o amigo te presentó en este mundo?

Cada Navidad hacían publicaciones anuales, generalmente de comics británicos como The Beano. Si tengo un súper poder es que nunca me cuesta diseñar páginas, lo que sea que tengan. Las imágenes me vienen fácilmente. Donde solía luchar era en poder enfocarme por un período de tiempo necesario para completar los dibujos. En los últimos años, y por diversas razones, eso ya no es un problema, y ​​sigo adelante con rapidez y de manera relativamente eficiente. 6.- ¿Puedes decir algo sobre tu participación en "Hawkman" de DC Comics? ¿Crees que este personaje debe tomarse más en serio y explotar su potencial?

1.- Which was your motivation to become an illustrator? Does a family member or friend introduced you in this world?

Every Christmas there were annuals made, usually of collected comics from British comics like The Beano. One year, I think it was 1976 I got a Superheroes annual, Batman And Superman and it had my first exposure to Superhero comics. It was instant addiction. We discovered a single newsagent in my home town, right next door to the local cinema that sold just DC comics, I hadn’t even heard of Marvel and wouldn’t for many years. I think I was the only one buying them as the pile only went down when I did. The following year was Star Wars then Superman and I’d beg, bower and steal (not really) money from parents to buy the comics and see the movies. In those days, there wasn’t any home entertainment like videos so films stayed on the cinema for months and had second and third releases so it was over that period in the latter half of the 1970’s I fell in love with comics and film. The two have always gone together for me.

2.- You are one of the few and renowned illustrators who appreciates and still work with the traditional technique of ink, pencil and paper, Do you use it because you feel more comfortable or do you think that digital work tend to lost the details?

Im starting to play with digital but yes, I love the traditional methods. To be honest, I’m much less traditional than I used to be as I used Japanese brush pens and markers now not brush and nib pens. The only thing putting me off digital is the steep learning curve involved in becoming familiar with it.

3.- How many hours a day do you invest illustrating or writing? How is your typical creating process? Where do you get your inspiration for those double spread widescreen pages?

If I have one super power it’s that I just never struggle with laying out pages, whatever’s on them. The images come easily. Where I used to struggle was in being able to focus for any period of time to complete the drawings. In recent years and for various reasons that’s no longer an issue and I just get on with it quickly and relatively efficiently. I work from around 9.30 AM until 6 PM five days a week. That’s it, no weekends.

4.- In your book "Bryan Hitch's Ultimate Comics Studio" you claim that comics as a drug for you, but after so many years of hard work, do you still feel the same excitement as the first day you started with Marvel UK? When will you release a new sketchbook or artbook?

I’m actually enjoying my work more now than I ever have in over thirty years (with the possible exception of the year doing Authority). It’s just not any sort of struggle and I’m so relaxed about it. All the projects I have on, writing, drawing or both are ones that have me so excited to just sit and work every day. Its really a joy in every respect.

5.- You have taken the complicated reins as writer and illustrator of "Real Heroes” and “Justice League of America”, how do you manage all this huge amount of work? Will you do that again soon?

It depends on what happens in which order. Robert and I work closely on Hawkman, though he’s very much the writer but that extra level of involvement  feeds into he artwork. He gives me very open plots with tons of room to play and we constantly go back and forth on stuff daily. Its such. Fun project to work on. There are plans for other stuff ahead but I just can’t even hint about it at all right now. It’s mega stuff though.

6.- Can you say something about your  participation on DC Comic’s “Hawkman”? Do you think this character needs to be taken more seriously and explote his potencial?

There’s an old saying; “there’s no such thing as a bad character, just a poor creator/writer/artist”. I certainly loved Kuberts’ Hawkman from the 60’s but it wasn’t until we started talking about it that I became inspired and that’s as much to do with what Robert came up with that anything. He had such a great take on the material and it sparked some cool stuff between us. Sometimes it’s just a job and sometimes you get genuinely inspired and just have to go with it.

7.- You have many sucessful  "Creator Owned" comics (América Got Powers, Real Héroes) Do you think that this genre is the future of the comics industry? Are There more projects in the future of your imprint The Hitch Factory?

I’m certainly not short of ideas but I just don’t feel the time is right at the moment. I have a ton of other things pressing me right now so it’s just a matter of when I can get to them.

8.- Are you interested in doing a project about comics in Kickstarter o something like that?

Not really. I’m pretty solidly booked for a few years and besides, it would always worry me that nobody would fund them! 

9.-Who manages your Twitter account? Does the social networks really helps to promote the work of a comic book artist/writer?

My Twitter account is all me. I love Twitter as it allows me to connect directly with fans in a way you never could before social media. It’s brilliant.

10.- You are a parent, illustrator, writer and your work has inspired several successful Hollywood films, what other project is in your future that you crave to do?

All the things I want to do are in my future; I just can’t talk about them yet!
