Esta nueva miniserie es escrita por Skottie Young e ilustrada por el venezolano Jorge Corona, narra la aventura de Abel quien se va de su casa para escapar de los abusos de su padre de una costa a otra costa de EE.UU descubriendo un mundo mágico acompañado de su mascota un zorro que no representa su conciencia, todo lo contrario.
¿De dónde Viene?
Abel vive con su abusivo padre en el Medio Oeste de EE.UU, lugar que está rodeado de llanuras y lagos, en este pueblo remoto Abel reparte periódicos y un día se queda dormido.
¿Qué sucede?
Abel despierta con un regaño de su padre porque no había repartido los periódicos del sábado en la mañana acompañado de su zorro (antropomórfico, porque hablan y le da los consejos menos esperados), al empezar a entregarlos un viento de los lleva por lo que Abel prefiere is con sus amigos al pueblo a comprar snacks y se mete en un gran lío, el que se mete cualquier chico de su edad.
Las pesadillas de Abel son recurrentes e involucran a un monstruo hecho de viento que parece que lo va a lanzar muy lejos.
El padre de Abel lo regaña por haberse metido en problemas en el pueblo, no solo lo maltrata físicamente, también lo hace con sus palabras, es muy duro en sus regaños, exagerados y fuera de lugar, esto hace que Abel explote y escapa, pero en medio de una situación paranormal.
Arte y Trama
Skottie Young nos traslada a un mundo que se no es familiar pero con pequeños elementos mágicos, que parecen cotidianos, este cómic tiene una historia profunda y real envuelta en circunstancias peculiares, recuerda mucho al Realismo Mágico Latinoamericano.
El arte de Jorge Corona logra balancear el drama, realismo y fantasía perfectamente, el dinamismo de cada panel así como las expresiones faciales de los personajes es admirable.
Resumen
Middelwest es una serie interesante que te engancha desde la primera página, con un personaje con el cual es muy fácil identificarse como lo es Abel.

REVIEW IN ENGLISH
This new miniseries is written by Skottie Young and illustrated by the Venezuelan Jorge Corona, narrates the adventure of Abel who leaves his home to escape his father's abuses from one coast to another US coast discovering a magical world accompanied by of your pet a fox that does not represent HIS conscience, just the opposite.
Where does it come from?
Abel lives with his abusive father in the Midwest of the USA, a place that is surrounded by plains and lakes, in this remote town Abel distributes newspapers and one day he falls asleep.
What's going on?
Abel wakes up with a scolding from his father because he had not distributed the newspapers on Saturday morning accompanied by his fox (anthropomorphic, because it talk and gives him the least expected advice), when they start delivering the newspapers a strong wind carries them so Abel prefers to buy snacks with his friends in the town and he gets into a big mess, which any boy of his age gets into.
Abel's nightmares are recurrent and involve a monster made of wind that seems to be throwing him far away.
Abel's father scolds him for getting into trouble in the town, not only physically mistreating him, he also does it with his words, it is very hard in his scolding, exaggerated and out of place, this makes Abel explode and escapes, but in the middle of a paranormal situation.
Art and Plot
Skottie Young takes us to a world that is familiar but with small magical elements, which seem everyday, this comic has a deep and real history wrapped in peculiar circumstances, reminiscent of the Latin American Magical Realism.
The art of Jorge Corona manages to balance the drama, realism and fantasy perfectly, the dynamism of each panel as well as the facial expressions of the characters is admirable.
Summary
Middelwest is an interesting series that hooks you from the first page, with a character with whom it is very easy to identify as Abel is.
