Entrevista exclusiva con Jeff McComsey sobre su nuevo cómic THE FOURTH MAN con Artists Writers and Artisans AWA. Este sería su tercer proyecto con AWA luego de (Grendel Kentucky, ET-ER) .
Jeff con solo 40 años ha escrito e ilustrado varios cómics, como su antología histórica de zombis FUBAR, que forma parte de la lista de libros más leídos New York Times. Actualmente reside en Lancaster, Pensilvania EE.UU, donde imparte clases en el Colegio de Arte y Diseño de Pensilvania.
Este brillante creador tomó tiempo de su apretada agenda para respondernos unas preguntas de su nuevo proyecto THE FOURTH MAN con el dibujante Mike Deodato Jr , a continuación la entrevista traducida y luego en el idioma original:
1.- En Grendel Kentucky escribiste una trama en torno a un pueblo con delincuencia clandestina y ahora THE FOURTH MAN vuelve a analizar una guerra territorial entre pequeños negocios. ¿Crees que estas historias cotidianas tienen más atractivo?
No diría que tienen más atractivo, pero ofrecen un poco más de libertad. Los pueblos pequeños, ficticios o no, son pizarras en blanco en la mente del lector. Podemos crearlos si los necesitamos. Donde las ciudades famosas, etc., tienen una historia que generalmente es bien conocida y que tendrías que escribir. Es por eso que me gusta ubicar mis historias en lugares como Grendel, KY y Medford, PA.
2.- Este cómic está basado en un hecho real, ¿crees que la realidad siempre da más miedo que la ficción? ¿Cuáles son tus películas/series de televisión favoritas?
Hay una banalidad en el mal de la vida real que de alguna manera me da más miedo. Los programas de televisión y las películas sobre crímenes más efectivos tienen una forma de capturar eso. Mis películas policiacas favoritas son cosas como FARGO (y la serie de televisión), HEAT, THIEF, Clockers, Seven y series como THE WIRE, TRUE DETECTIVE y COLUMBO.
3.- ¿Qué se siente al trabajar con un artista tan experimentado y capaz como Mike Deodato Jr?
Crear cómics puede ser una lucha, pero trabajar con un artista como Mike lo hizo muy fácil. Me encanta ver la narración que está haciendo que podría no haber sido escrita cuando llega el trabajo. Esa es otra gran cosa, su producción es constante, estaba viendo páginas nuevas casi todos los días. Ahora que ha terminado FOURTH MAN, echo de menos la muestra de arte diaria en mi bandeja de entrada.
4.- Este cómic es brillante, así que es solo cuestión de tiempo para la adaptación a película/serie live action, ¿cuál crees que es el elenco perfecto?
Me gustaría ver a Paul Giamatti interpretando a Johnny Romano ya Harvey Keitel interpretando a Anthony D'Agostino.

INTERVIEW IN ENGLISH
1.- In Grendel Kentucky you wrote a plot around a sort of small town with underground crime and now The Fourth Man again analyzes a small business turf war. Do you believe that these everyday stories have more appeal?
I wouldn't say they have more appeal but they do offer a little more freedom. Small towns, fictitious or otherwise, are blank slates in the reader's mind. We can create them however we need them. Where famous cities and so on have a history that is usually well known that you'd have to write around. This is why I like to set my stories in places like Grendel, KY and Medford, PA.
2.- This comic is based on a true event, do you believe that reality is always more scary than fiction? What are your favorite crime movies/tv series?
There is a banality to real life evil that somehow makes it scarier to me. The most effective crime tv shows and movies have a way of capturing that. My favorite crime movies are things like, FARGO(and the TV series), HEAT, THIEF, Clockers, Seven, and shows like THE WIRE, TRUE DETECTIVE and COLUMBO.
3.- What does it feel like to work with an artist as experienced and capable as Mike Deodato Jr ?
Comics can be a struggle to create, but working with an artist like Mike made it a breeze. I love seeing the storytelling he's doing that might not have been scripted as the work comes in. That's another big thing, his production is steady, I was seeing new pages almost every day. Now that he's finished FOURTH MAN, I miss the daily art show in my inbox.
4.- This comic is brilliant, so it's just a matter of time for the live action movie/series adaptation, what do you think is the perfect cast?
I'd like to see Paul Giamatti play Johnny Romano and Harvey Keitel play Anthony D'Agostino.
