Fecha de lanzamiento: 18 de Agosto

Sinopsis:

Synopsis

In 1929, six friends were called to a mysterious island and returned home with super-powers. The story that unfolded is like none before, a huge mythological tale that explores everything from superheroes enforcing their real-world politics on humanity to the secret, alien origins of the human race itself. Jupiter’s Legacy covers three generations of heroes in a vast trilogy that has been described as The Lord of the Rings for superheroes. Featuring stunning art and designs from co-creator Frank Quitely and interior art by Wilfredo Torres.

A sales smash when originally released, this series was also adapted into a huge $100 million adaptation for Netflix. Every once in a while, there’s a defining superhero project from Dark Knight to Watchmen to The Ultimates and The Authority and Jupiter’s Legacy belongs in this milieu. Millar has described it as the best work of his entire career and this first volume is a Hollywood Babylon for the superheroes of the Golden Age.

Plot
This volume takes us back in time to the 1930s and 1960s, the golden age of superhero comics. It chronicles the exploits of the world's first superhero team, led by Sheldon Sampson/Utopian and his family. They must maintain a double life, combining the altruism of being an impeccable public figure with their private lives filled with common problems, such as sexual preferences, which were taboo at the time, and how politics interfered to take power away from this team.

Human nature manifests among these heroes, and professional jealousy causes a stark divide, where Skyfox, Utopian's best friend, decides to go the opposite way.

It's a love letter to the narrative and visual language of comics from those decades, but it touches on mature themes and prepare us for the painful future of the Sampson family.

Rating 5 out of 5

Art
It portrays the comics of the era in a lighthearted way, yet manages to touch on themes not intended for children. It also establishes a universe similar to that of animated series like the Super Friends. There are many artistic visions in these volumes, offering an eclectic feel that pays homage to all the comics from the 1960s and 1970s.

Trama

Synopsis

A gothic sword and sorcery epic graphic novel that’s Conan the Barbarian meets The Wizard of Oz.

From Tom King and Bilquis Evely, the Eisner award-winning, bestselling creative team of Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Following the tragic death of her late father C.K. Cole, the esteemed pulp writer and creator of the popular warrior character Othan, Helen Cole is called back to her Grandfather's enormous and elustrious estate, Wyndhorn House.

Scarred by Cole's untimely passing and lost in a new, strange world, Helen wreaks drunken havoc upon her arrival. However, her chaotic ways begin to soften as she discovers a lifetime of secrets hiding within the myriad rooms and hallways of the expansive manor. For outside its walls, within the woods, dwell the legendary adventures that once were locked away within her father’s stories.

Collects the hit series Helen of Wyndhorn #1–#6 and features a sketchbook section and bonus art by Walt Simonson, Greg Smallwood, Clay Mann, Elsa Charretier, Tula Lotay, Massimo Carnivale, Fabio Moon, and Jill Thompson.

Plot
Thomas Roger wrote a book about the tragic life of C.K. Cole, based on the interview he conducted with Lilith Appleton, the housekeeper who took care of Helen after her father committed suicide. Everything is narrated according to the audio recording of the interview, which is about to be auctioned, as this book has become a cult work.

It all takes place in the 1940s.

Lilith narrates how Helen's self-destructive behavior with alcohol kept her unconscious during the first month she moved into the immense Wyndhorn mansion. The only detail is that Helen constantly went to sleep with Lilith because she saw monsters in her room every night; apparently, it wasn't the effect of her drunkenness. Helen lives with the pain of her father's death and drowns it with alcohol.

One day, Helen discovers her grandfather with an animal named FlyUne, which she learns about through reading her father's books. However, this creature is a fantastical creature, and she believed it didn't exist. The Wyndhorn mansion and the surrounding area hide mysteries, which she tries to uncover, because her father always told her that the books he wrote never came from his imagination.

From this moment on, Helen discovers her grandfather's secrets and a portal to a fantasy world full of wonder and violence, which she begins to visit with her grandfather. Thus, a friendship blossoms between grandfather and granddaughter, but egos and spite begin to destroy it in the same way it was born.

The script delves into mental illness and how pain can be turned into a weapon. This comic transcends the narrative of a fantastical story; it is a love letter about the complexity and delicacy of parenthood.

Helen of Wyndhorn is an addictive story, full of mystery and told in an interesting way, blending melancholy with horror and fantasy.

This spectacular deluxe hardcover edition differs from the previous one in that it is oversized with a slipcase, a book ribbon, gilt edges, and all-new, previously unpublished additional sketchbook materials.

Rating: 5 out of 5

Art
It's very organic and full of mesmerizing details. Each panel transports you back to the 1940s with great realism, but at the same time, it's balanced with brilliant fantasy elements. Although the comic is hand-drawn, it looks like it was painted in oils; the artistic level of this series is impressive.

Sinopsis:

Synopsis

Mark Millar and Frank Quitely’s comic-book masterpiece, a vast epic covering three generations of superheroes from the early 20th Century to the far future.

During the depths of the Great Depression, a mysterious island sent out a call to seven good-hearted people. They returned with fantastic powers and helped the United States through World War 2, The Cold War, and countless crises. They were beloved by all mankind, but their children were a different breed entirely.

Rich, spoiled and growing up in the Hollywood hills without their parents’ sense of duty, they grew tired of mankind’s ways and decided to murder their parents, take over the world and impose their ideas on a human race they regard as weak and stupid. Brandon Sampson, the son of the two most powerful superheroes who ever lived is their leader, a callow narcissist who always felt in his father’s shadow. But his sister Chloe refused to buckle and now leads the resistance movement against the superheroes. She and her super-villain boyfriend are recruiting all the old crooks they drove into hiding with a plan to rescue the world from the people born to save it.

Plot
Volume 3 introduces the first generation of superheroes, led by Sheldon Sampson (Utopian), who has spent over seventy years saving the planet with the help of his brother Walter. However, his children, Chloe and Brandon, didn't inherit that altruistic desire and preferred to be celebrities. Walter took advantage of this to betray Sheldon and have Brandon assassinate him. Walter and Brandon took over the White House and became cruel governors who imprisoned all the superhumans on Earth.

The sequence of how they eliminate Utopian and all his allies is shocking.

Chloe and Hutch go into hiding and have their son, Jason. Jason is raised with all of his grandfather's stories and exploits and reveals himself to the world as the new savior against the system, using his powers. He is the last hope.

In volume 4, Chloe, Hutch, and Jason begin recruiting other superhumans living in hiding to lead an attack against Walter and Brandon, including Hutch's father, Skyfox, who for years was seen as a villain thanks to Walter.

This volume includes new superhumans hunting Chloe, Hutch, and Jason, but also shows how corrupt Chloe is. It shows the fall of Walter and Brandon's tyrannical empire. The new characters Raikou and Repro are brilliant.

These two volumes close an era of the Sampson family in the present, setting the stage for a futuristic era that will reveal the origin of the powers and what the Island and Jupiter mean.

Rating: 5 out of 5

Art
Frank Quitely's art is extremely detailed, making it rewarding to analyze each panel. He's a genius at what he does. His perspectives and designs are overwhelming, with that meticulously crafted texture that makes it hard not to be mesmerized. It is one of the best arts in the comics industry.

Sinopsis:

Hundreds of years from now, the man known as Rook was once a simple farmer who fled the crumbling Earth for a new life. He traveled to the planet Exodus, a terraformed world where all of nature, including its imported animal population, was completely controlled by humans called Wardens. But when Exodus’s world engine failed, the Wardens’ power fell into the wrong hands, creating chaos and mass evacuation…for those who could afford it. The rest, like Rook, must scavenge for an escape vessel as the war for control of what’s left of Exodus begins.

"This science fiction, Mad Max-like story is the beginning of something extraordinary." —Nerd Initiative

Plot
Rook is a farmer who moved to the planet Exodus in 2173, like millions who emigrated with the promise of improving their lives as planet Earth was becoming uninhabitable.

Technology for farmers and ranchers is such that it allows them to control the wildlife needed to produce crops and livestock at maximum efficiency. This means that, depending on your field, you can control different animals with your mind.

Rook is in charge of the corn fields, and crows are his animals to control.

But something happened on the planet Exodus. The terraforming machine (WORLD ENGINE) is failing, and an environmental catastrophe is unfolding. The planet is becoming uninhabitable, with little water and food scarce. Meanwhile, the wildlife is undergoing mutations that make them dangerous. Those who control it now have immeasurable power.

Rook is about to finish his ship to leave Exodus, but he has little time left, and the current situation is complex, with little food for him and his crows, not to mention the fact that he could fall prey to anyone who wants to take his ship.

Rook seeks out his friend Swine to accompany him to escape Exodus, but Swine's helmet has stopped emitting signals. That's when a Guardian named Dire Wolf appears, explaining that Swine was murdered and his helmet stolen.

Rook and Dire Wolf, whose name is Donnica, had a close relationship in the past; however, since they work as guardians for the corporation in different wildlife areas, they cannot have a relationship. Dire Wolf controls the wolves.

Swine's killer, who calls himself URSAW, aims to eliminate all the guardians and take their helmets, thereby controlling all the wildlife on Exodus. He is currently attacking both of them with giant bears. URSAW wants to have all the Wardens' helmets so they can control all wildlife and the planet.

The analogy, where those who control the helmets become cruel predators like the animals they control, is a kind of psychological synergy.
This series is mind-blowing; it's a mix of John Carter from Mars and Jurassic Park, with epic and biblical scales.

The narrative in this comic is addictive and leaves you wanting more.

This Deluxe version includes all the alternate covers for each of the seven installments, as well as sketches and early character designs with descriptions of the creative process. It also includes an interview that Ben Morse did to the artist Jason Fabok.

Rating: 5 out of 5

Art
Jason Fabok offers his highly detailed art where everything makes sense, recreating new worlds with futuristic technology and making them believable. Each page is mesmerizing and chilling, playing with the scale of this entire world with a cinematic vision. It's a must-read masterpiece.
