Esta secuela del cómic de culto American Jesus The Chosen del año 2004 narra la historia de un niño de doce años que de repente descubre que es Jesucristo reencarnado. Él puede convertir el agua en vino, hacer que los tullidos caminen y quizás resucitar a los muertos. Aquí pueden leer completo el primer número gratis de American Jesus.
Este cómic es el sexto proyecto de Millarworld/Netflix luego de la compra de la editorial Millarworld por el gigante del streaming Netflix. Será una serie multilingüe (español / inglés), de la mano de Everardo Gout (Marvel's Luke Cage, Sacred Lies, Mars, Banshee, Aquí En La Tierra) y Leopoldo Gout (Molly's Game, Instinct) quienes actuarán como co-directores y productores ejecutivos en la serie.
Es un honor y orgullo mostrarles que la editora Rachael Fulton citó parte de mi reseña y la colocó en la contraportada de esta novela gráfica.
¿De qué viene?
Esta historia comienza en el año 1974 en Harlem, New York, EE.UU, donde una adolescente llamada Luciana Cortez, que tiene un sueño misterioso relacionado a la muerte de Jesucristo que se lo explica un misterioso señor con traje blanco.
Luego Luciana descubre que esta embarazada, pero nunca había tenido relaciones, solo tenia un novio Eddie, una relación inocente, apenas se conocen y disfrutan películas como Young Frankenstein, hitos de la época. El cómic construye muy bien la cultura de esa década de 1970 y 1980.
¿Qué sucede?
Todo toma un giro cuando Luciana tiene 8 semanas de embarazo..nadie le cree que es virgen, solamente le cree Eddie. En este caso lo que optó la familia de Luciana es llevarla a una clínica de aborto..pero algo extraño y poderoso ocurre que evita ese aborto. Esta escena es espeluznante.
Luciana se convence que está embarazada del hijo de Dios en pleno siglo XX, que el mundo está gobernado por el Anticristo con 13 familias satánicas con mucho poder político y económico, ella corre mucho peligro y escapa a Texas con Eddie donde son recibidos como reyes por el líder religioso Ezequiel.

La historia luego da un salto a 1992, donde Luciana ya dio a luz a la ...hija de Dios, Jesucristo encarna en una niña llamada Catalina. De descendia latina y de color, sin duda un cambio étnico contemporáneo.
Catalina está cansada de que la idolatren y mantengan aislada del mundo, tratando de mantenerla fuera del radar del matón de satanas Joe Allerdyce (quien aparece también en The Chosen), ella no cree en nada de que es el mesías y al cumplir 18 se escapa y conoce a un cantante de Rock, en este momento la empiezan a rastrear.
Luciana decide que debe buscar a su hija sola, que es la enviada por el Ángel Gabriel, deja atrás a Eddie y Ezequiel, esta advertencia es porque ya Joe Allerdyce los tiene localizados. Aunque para esta entrega ya esperamos qué es lo que va a pasar, lo que acontece es ÉPICO, no podrán dejar de pasar las páginas.
Este cómic refresca la mitología cristiana con un análisis honesto teológico desde varias visiones, no ofrece una cátedra de teología con un solo punto de vista, ni tampoco critica esta religión, es honesto,concreto y abierto.
El Libro 3 saldrá pronto, que es la pelea por la humanidad entre Catalina y Jodie.
Arte
El regreso de este equipo creativo de Millar y Gross es espectacular, logran traer de nuevo esa magia que comenzó en el año 2004 y deja claro en qué época ocurre The Chosen, ya que en teoría el mesías y el hijo de satanás son casi contemporáneos.

This is the sequel of the cult comic American Jesus The Chosen in 2004 (Here you can read the first issue of American Jesus The Chosen).
American Jesus The New Messiah is the sixth Millarworld / Netflix project after the purchase of the Millarworld publishing house by the streaming giant Netflix. It will be a multilingual series (Spanish / English), by Everardo Gout (Marvel's Luke Cage, Sacred Lies, Mars, Banshee, Here On Earth) and Leopoldo Gout (Molly's Game, Instinct) who will act as co-directors and producers executives in the series. Everardo Gout will also direct the series.
Where does it comes from?
This story begins in 1974 in Harlem, New York, USA, where a teenager named Luciana Cortez, who has a mysterious dream related to the death of Jesus Christ, explained to her by a mysterious man in a white suit.
Then Luciana discovers that she is pregnant, but she had never had relationships, she only had a boyfriend called Eddie, an innocent relationship, they hardly know each other and enjoy movies like Young Frankenstein, milestones of the time. The comic recreates the culture of that 1970s and 1980s very well.
What's going on?
Everything takes a turn when Luciana is 8 weeks pregnant ... nobody believes her to be a virgin, only Eddie believes her. In this case, Luciana's family chose to take her to an abortion clinic ... but something strange and powerful happens that prevents that abortion. This scene is creepy.
Luciana convinces herself that she is pregnant with the son of God in the 20th century, that the world is ruled by the Antichrist with 13 satanic families with great political and economic power, she is in great danger and escapes to Texas with Eddie where they are received as royalty by the religious leader Ezekiel.
The story then jumps to 1992, where Luciana already gave birth to the ... daughter of God, Jesus Christ incarnates in a girl named Catherine. Of Latin descent, without a doubt a contemporary ethnic change.
Catalina is tired of being idolized and kept isolated from the world, trying to keep her off the radar of satan thug Joe Allerdyce (who also appears in The Chosen), she does not believe in anything that she is the messiah because she doesn't have any powers, when she turns 18 she escapes and she meets a rock singer.
Luciana decides that she must search for her daughter alone, who is the one sent by the Angel Gabriel, leaving Eddie and Ezequiel behind, this warning is because Joe Allerdyce has already located them. Although for this installment we are already waiting for what is going to happen, what happens is EPIC, you will not be able to stop turning the pages.
This comic refreshes Christian mythology with an honest theological analysis from various perspectives, it does not offer a theology masterclass with a single point of view, nor does it criticize this religion, it is honest, concrete and open.
Book 3 will be out soon, which is the fight for humanity between Catalina and Jodie.
Art
The return of this creative team of Millar and Gross is spectacular, they manage to bring back that magic that began in 2004 and makes clear at what time The Chosen occurs, since in theory the messiah and the son of satan are almost contemporary.
